Cinder, whom I will never forget

My beardie is finally here, who was sent to me by Howlin Gale Dragons. :D I'm still trying to decide on a name for him. This is going to be his thread, dedicated to his daily adventures and shenanigans.
He is 5 1/2 inches long and very gentle. He is very calm and still when I handle him. He doesn't like baths too much, from what I discovered yesterday when he arrived.
He is adjusting to everything very fast. He seems to like being handled, he always has a creamy white belly. I discovered that he seems to like his beard rubbed...he closes his eyes and goes very still. When I pet his back, he flattens his back out...I don't know if that is an indication of contentment or aggravation.
Today I made the mistake of setting him on my bed for half a second, and he zipped across it in a flash and hit the floor, but continued to run. He was fine, but I don't know if something spooked him into acting like this...when he first arrived yesterday, I had set him on my bed and he just watched me very calmly and walked around a bit...he even attempted to climb my bed drape. My cats might have spooked him because they were both in my room at the time, laying around oblivious to him. I'm going to not have them in the room the next time he is out- I wish I never made the mistake in the first place, but I'm learning as a new beardie mom.
Also, another note on his likes/dislikes...he seems to have an aversion to squash. :? lol. I got him to eat some Collard greens yesterday, but as soon as he tasted that squash he refused veggies for the rest of the night. He is still on a veggie strike.

FINALLY, on to the best part!

Soaking after his arrival. :love5:

Drying up on his new personal blankie. :D

This is from today at 7:00 am : groggy, grumpy and pancakin.
"Woman, are you aware of what time it is? GET THAT THING OUTTA MAH FACE. >:C"

Saddly, these are the only pics I could take before my camera ran out of batteries. :( I'm currently scavenging for more. I hope to take some pictures of him eating tonight.

Okay, heres some pics of bath time today...and somewhat of a bump...
He was attached to my hand for dear life! He did his little air-licking thing when her heard the water running, and he licked water from my hands again...so cute!

As you can see, Cinder hasn't really grown too much. I can say he can fill himself with more air now then he used to, and maybe his head grew a bit, but other wise he is still around 5 1/2-6 inches. :|

I'm sorry for the too-common updates, but so much has been going on lately! :silent:

Yesterday was a busy day. I came home to find that Cinder's 75watt basking bulb had burnt out. I don't know how long he had gone without any heat, but I quickly replaced it. It was odd because he was brightly colored the whole time, but was a little irritated...he was a bit jumpy and didn't seem to want to be held. Hes ok now, thankfully.
A quick pic that I found of him when he was younger:

My brother brought home this little surprise the other day, too...here are some pictures from today:

Its SO hard to take pictures of kittens. They don't stop moving around!
My brother found her near an abandoned house down our road, which has become a hot spot for animal drop-offs. A few years back, we found a malnourished white puppy living around the house. We took her in and soon found her a home in Florida. The dog was taken to a vet, and with some x-rays, the family found that the puppy (we called Bucky because of a strange under-bite) had been shot through the top of her head when she was younger. There was a hole in the top of her mouth...luckily, the family and foster agency we had worked with raised enough money to reposition her jaw and close up the hole.
Back to the kitty. I gave it the nic-name Ashes, and I'm nearly positive she is a girl. She might have wandered away from a house, but I'm pretty sure she is a drop off. I know my family can't take her in, we already have three cats and we are currently preparing to babysit another cat for the summer.
She is very well-fed, not skinny at all, and she didn't have a single flea on her and only two ticks that weren't even buried in her skin. I'm guessing that she had been dropped off the day we found her for her to be so healthy (nobody lives around this old house for about a mile in all directions, and this cat is still young and wobbly on its feet...I doubt it ran away). Her belly isn't round and bloated, but she has had some slimy stools and will have to be wormed. She loves to play and be around people and purrs quite a bit. She is talkative and doesn't like to be alone. She will happily sit in your lap, but that trademark "kitten energy" will soon drive her to explore, run around, and play with your feet and random objects.
We can't keep her for more then a few days, so if anybody is interested, please please tell me!

It's nice to see that Cinder's doing well. I wouldn't worry to much about the not growing much recently. With Dewey he stayed the same length for a week or so and then over the next week he'd grow an inch... literally! As long as Cinder's needs are being met and he's eating I think he'll be ok. He's such a little cutie! :)

Ashes is a beatiful little kitten too. Good luck finding her a good home. If I were in your shoes I'd already be attached to her and wouldn't be able to let her go. Me and my animals....

Your right...ugh, its just so hard not to worry about him. I see all of these other beardies growing like weeds...maybe he is just a late bloomer. :dontknow:

My mom is trying to contact a bunch of foster homes. If none of them follow up with her this weekend, then she will meet this lady at a vet to get Ashes a check up. From there, the girl will take Ashes with her and she will try to find a foster home for the kitten.
I'm already quite attached to her, but I understand that we can't take in any more cats. The only way we could keep her would be to make her an outside cat...and I don't want to subject a kitten to the wilderness we live in, so thats a definite no. My mom loves the kitten and carries Ashes around with her everywhere. We are going to have a tough time seeing her go, but at least I know she will go to a good home.
She is so fun to watch, too! Its even better then watching TV.

Geez. I'm the one who does the most posting on my thread...

I moved Cinder's UVB into his tank instead of being on top of his screen tank top on the 2nd. I think this will help with his appetite and growth.
So far, Cinder has had a lot more energy. Yesterday he was going nuts, running around his tank and glass dancing. He also ate more crickets then he has the whole time I have had him- 11! I'm proud. He is starting to get that "buddah belly." I'm hoping by the end of this week, he might show signs of some growth.
I let the little guy roam around on my bed. For the first time, he didn't bolt away from me! He is very fond of my laptop and loves to try to watch me surf the net. He also tries to eat the cursor and jump at the screen. He got a little freaked out by the camera, but all went very well. Didn't try to bolt off once, but he will jump from me onto my computer. I'm jealous of it, I wish he would act that way towards me!
I've been able to watch him and hang out with him more then usual because I have missed two days from school because of the flooding around here. I might be able to miss tomorrow, crossing fingers.
Its really hard to believe I'll be graduating on the 27th of this month. In my mind I have already graduated...I know what I'm going to do afterwards and everything, but at the same time its like a big somber realization. I will be done with grade school in three weeks! Wow...true life, here I come!

Cinder deliberately ignoring the camera..." Nope, you can't take a cute picture of me...I refuse." Too bad, you look cute anyway!
(please ignore the poopy on his log, I just cleaned the thing the day before and he had already made a mess)

(I think I take too many pictures. :silent: )

Today, hes been kinda groggy and dark colored, but he still managed to down 8 crickets and a phoenix worm after he woke up. His grogginess might be from his lack of sleep last night. He was so hyper that he didn't get to bed until 10:30  ! I took him out to tuck him in, but I geuss the burrito just wasn't comfy enough. He squirmed out of it and tried to find an adequate spot to sleep...he ended up climbing on top of my head and nuzzling himself into my hair. It was so, so , so cute! :love5: I didn't want to move him, but I had to wake him up to put him back in his tank.
I just got done giving him a bath and the first thing he does afterwards is climb into my hair and hang out on my shoulder. I think he does it to dry himself off! He is so peculiar and full of personality...I still feel like his full personality will develop when he gets older! I can't imagine what he'll be like then.

Update on Ashes: we still have the sweetie. Her vet appointment was rescheduled due to the major flooding. I don't know how long she will be here, but I am loving that she is staying longer. She now has special kitten food and her own litter box. The other cats don't really mind her, but they will give her warnings when she gets too hyper. My room has become a safe-spot for the three because it is upstairs and the quietest and farthest away from the kitty girl.

Thanks, Cinder is a great name. :D Cinder is one of my babies...I have dogs, cats, and a couple betta fish, but Cinder is the first reptile I have ever owned, so he has a very special place in my heart (he has an amazing personality that I didn't expect out of a reptile!)

WHOOOOOO, I'm so excited: I have an important announcement to make! Cinder is now 7.8 grams! The first sign I have seen that he is growing since I got him! I'm so proud! When I weighed him, he got a bit puffed up because he either thought I was going to give him a bath, or because there were cats sleeping nearby, but I don't think that would effect his weight. I'm so happy, it didn't seem like he would ever start growing! :blob5: :blob8: :love5:

Yes, Cinder has passed.
His death hit me harder then any death of a pet ever has.
I'm sorry if it took me a while to post it on his thread, I wasn't ready to do it until now.

I understand that statement. There is just something about beardies that crawl their way into your heart with in days and stay there, even if they aren't here anymore. I'm glad you took all those pics of him. You will have plenty of pics to remember him by.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
