Hi all, I changed the towels in Gabriel's cage today and since then he has tried eating it several times... Why would he do that? He LOVES his greens so I thought that he thought that the towel was some greens but I don't know?

He gets fed a salad of mixed greens and squash, then 20-30 "pinhead" Turkistan Roaches, 3x a day. Anyone know why he is doing it? I'm going to change the towel to an other color to see if it has something to do with that

EDIT

And few seconds ago he took what seems like a deep breath or exhale, puffed himself up and slowly head bobbed, why did he do that?

As for the towel comment, beardies like to chomp on anything they think is edible, usually green or red are the most "edible looking." I've heard of beardies trying to take a bite out of a pencil-top-eraser that happened to be green. My beardie tried to take a nice big bite out of the cayenne peppers I had drying on my windowsil because they were red (and actually edible, but that's besides the point). It's not uncommon for them to think that something like a green towel is just a HUGE piece of greens.

Is your guy starting to shed? Hermes does that when he needs to loosen up the skin on his back, neck, or belly.

Thank you for the reply, and just now he tried to chomp the probe of my thermometer, does it mean he is hungry or he is just seeing if it's edible? And he just completed a shed on his back and is getting ready for a head shed, so I don't know? He is also around 6 months and I read somewhere that around this time, the "teenage" years begin?

if it resembles food in anyway they will go after it.

if they have huge appetites they will always try to eat (even when their belly looks like it will explode).

Tasty Treat has tried to eat:
  • string
    yarn
    wires
    my finger nails (painted purple)
    hair
    her own foot
    and so on

i usually get a dirty look when i stop her, sometimes she'll bite me

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
