Chicken Heat lamp--silly?

With the help of this site and its members, I think I have set up our new beardies tank, but I had a thought and maybe it is quite silly...... I was at a feed store recently and they had a ceramic socket light set up to keep baby chickens warm. It was a clamp style dome light. It was like 250 watt and gave off a white light. It was very cheap price for the bulb they were using and it was keeping the chicks nice an warm. I was just curious if this type of light would be able to be used for a heat source for a dragon? Would it be harmful as long as it was positioned to provide the dragon with a basking area of 100-110 degrees? Or would this be harmful for the dragon? Why? Forgive me if this is a ridiculous thought.

Can you post a link to the type of bulb they are using? I know some of the farm stores near me carry reflective dome fixtures with ceramic base that work as cheap fixtures for a basking light but I'm not sure what kind of bulbs you were seeing.

There isn't a ton of information about the bulb and how it's built etc. If it's an IR bulb then most of the heat energy is likely coming in the IR range which is similar to that of a ceramic heat emitter and that's fine as long as it's also producing a lot of bright light in the visible spectrum as well. It would help to know the lumens to determine how much visible light is being put out. Either way at 250w the bulb likely gets much too hot for a bearded dragon enclosure but it may be worth setting one of these up in a fixture outside of the enclosure and running some tests to see what temperatures you measure at different heights and outward distances.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
