My older 5 year old beardie has been getting bitten by my younger one. The young one has just laid eggs last week and was very thin. I have been feeding her enough that she shouldnt be overly agressive. The other day I found her chewing on my older ones tail. They have been housed together for a year and a half now with no problems. I thought it may heve been a acccident and treated the wound. today I woke up to find her being chewed on again. Now much of her tail is skinned. The wound is ok but i cant leave the two alone. What can I do other than splitting them up?

Hello,

I hate to have to say this but you have to separate them, there is no other option, unless you divide the tank with a divider. Even then, you will need 2 sets of lights.
She will continue to chew the tail until there is nothing left. Is it 2 females or a male & a female?
You will need to watch her carefully to make sure that the tail does not get infected. Are you putting antibiotic ointment on the tail?

Both are female. Today I checked on the tail again and its healing now. Ive been using multiple antibiotic ointments on her and I have already seperated them. The one who has been attacking the other has been put in a seperate enclousre out of sight of each other.

Hello,

Oh well, that can still happen with the same sex of dragon, unfortunately. :(
Great they are in separate enclosures now. That is how it is going to have to be for now on. How is the tail looking now, does it appear to have any infection going on in it yet? Continue using the antibiotic ointment & just watch it for any major color change as that could be infection starting.

The tail is healing. It isnt quite as raw anymore however the tip is becoming discolored and may have to be amputated, I first noticed this a few days ago and nothing else has become discolored. Im still treating it with neosporin and I am keeping a very close eye on it.

Hello,

Great to hear that the tail is healing up pretty well. Just keep an eye on it. I hope that it wont have to be amputated at all, but most of the times a small portion ends up having to be due to infection.

I have the same problem but they are siblings and only about a year old. One has doubled in size while the other has not grown much at all. Is it a female-female thing?

It's a dragon thing. Female-female is actually the least dangerous combo. They're solitary and neither need nor want company. Siblings means zilch in the animal kingdom (hell, most people with children will tell you it means pretty much nothing in ours either) and they'll turn on each other just as quickly.

No, its a dominance thing. The large one more than likely stresses and dominates the smaller one. It is best to keep the separate. Like Peera mentioned, the combo that some people have had success with is female and female, but if one is that much larger than the other, there is a problem.

Hello,

Just wondering how your dragon's tail was doing, is it healing up for the most part now?

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
