Chester passed away today ...

if you've read my previous post, Chester stopped eating ad was impacted. He did poop and started to get back to normal. Then about 2 days ago, he went completely downhill again. Black beard 24/7, wouldn't eat. Sunken eyes, half closed. I thought he was dehydrated so I gave him 2 warm baths a day and fed him baby food and calcium. Today his overall color seemed better except for his beard. I called the vet and scheduled a appointment for today I went to go check on him and his mouth was open, eyes closed and looked dead. I picked him up and he gasped for breath and was cold. I put him outside I the natural sunlight with a warm bath, holding his head up and called the vet to see if I could come earlier. He passed away a few minutes ago before I could get to the vet... I'm so distraught. I tried so hard to give him the best life and keep him healthy... I really love bearded dragons and would love to get another one. But I feel like I shouldn't.. I don't want to replace him and I dont want hurt another poor creature... Just a little rant

So sorry to hear about Chester. You cared alot about him, and I'm sure that he had a happy life being cared for and fed and loved.

I am so sorry! I lost one a couple weeks ago that I only had for a few days and I was destroyed...it is like losing a family member.

I'm so sorry about Chester. I lost my Lucy to impaction earlier this year and have had those exact same guilty feelings too. But I have done lots of research and am gonna do it right this time. Give yourself some time to grieve and then make your decision.

i hate to hear this. I lost one of my dragons a few months ago and it was devastating. Apparently, I had a bad UVB bulb and it eventually killed my little Onyxia. I feel your pain. Stay strong and don't feel like you are replacing your pet. I am sure he lived a great life and would want you to make another dragon as happy as he was.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We lost Dreganna last weekend as well. She had become impacted from trying superworms for the first time. We tried applesauce, olive oil, daily baths etc. Took her to the Vet for $182 and the next morning after she passed on. I lost it again today b/c we received a condolences card from her Vet. Again, I feel your pain and am so sorry to hear about Chester. We've got a new beardie now, Ziggy, and he's so tiny that I'll probably be neurotic for the next 3 months! (you can see his pic in the introductions thread).

Thanks everyone. It is very hard, I'm not saying its as hard as losing a dog but the feeling is very close. For such a small animal he had such a personality and I hate thinking that I failed him ): I just buried him by my garden today. RIP Chester

All I can say is I'm so sorry for your loss... I lost my beardie girl Monster about 2 months ago and it was one of the most devastating things I've ever gone through. The pain is so strong it can almost suffocate you, I know. I'm just so sorry for what you must be going through. It's obvious that you did everything within your power to help your little guy, but he just couldn't hold on. I know it will take plenty of time to grieve, but maybe one day in the future you'll be able to put the love and effort you had for Chester into another lucky beardie (I just brought home a new little guy yesterday). Again, so sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss.I lost my first beardie about 6 months ago(I don't talk about him much).I only had him for eight days but i had such a strong connection with him.I had accidentally left his cage open and i have a cat that sits next to his cage all the time.Well I came back to his cage and saw he was missing so i started looking every where.Then I walked in the kitchen and saw a cat sitting there with a lizard .I was happy at first that i had found him but then i realized he had been sliced open.I started crying so hard and it was just to hard for me.I couldn't stand the pain.We buried him in our garden the next day and every once in a while i give him a flower and say how sorry i am for letting him down .
We got Nero the next day and i am very cautious with whatever is around him and I NEVER leave his cage open.I would never want to know what would happen to me if something happened to Nero.I still miss my first beardie very much and i was shaking as i right this.I know how hard it is to lose a beardie or other pet .

I'm so sorry to hear that. I lost a chicken that was like a dog to me and it tore a hole in my heart. If I go into the details of his death I'll begin to cry. Even though it has been a year since his passing, I feel hollow inside. Just know that you gave Chester the best life. However short it was. And if you do get another lizard it won't replace Chester. I think he would want you to get another too.
