Changing to Dubias

I have had Pogo for 5 days (I think he is about 2 months old - 7" and 10 grams). He just does not eat a lot. A lot of people have said that stress of moving can cause them to lower their appetite. The largest number of crickets I can get him to eat in a day is 5 and he has eaten as few as two. We have offered them to him multiple times every day to make sure that he has a chance to eat. The crickets offered are pretty big for him, but not larger than the space between his eyes. He will eat a few bites of collard or mustard greens and an occasional dragon food pellet as well. My dubias are supposed to be here on Tuesday, so I am going to try that and see if he just doesn't like the crickets that much. I have no problem spending the money on more pricey insects if I can just get the little bugger to eat. He has pooped four out of the five days that he's been with us (always in the same spot and always healthy looking and poopy smelling - but not foul).

He also might be starting to shed - his tail and part of his head have gone a duller color than the rest of him.

Sorry so long.

Big question - I dust the crickets with calcium - should dubias be dusted as well?

Thanks for any suggestions. I just want to do right by this little guy - he is super friendly and I already love him.

Yes, dust dubia just as you would crickets. I think you'll find dubia much easier to handle, raise, and keep than crickets.

My daughters BD "Lizzie" started turning her nose up to crickets about a 1 1/2 months ago. Don't know her age but right now she's 10.500 inches long.

I decided to try Dubia's and ordered 250 small/medium from KFCfeeders.com. Once received I dusted the roaches and place 10 in the feeder bin with Lizzie, she gingerly walked toward one and ate it and after that she pounced on the remaining 9. That day she ate 20 the following day 40.

Now when I enter the room and reach up to the bin which she knows holds the Dubia she leaps from her basking spot and windows surf. One day I slid the window open prior to obtaining the Dubia bin and she leaped from her vivarium onto the bedroom floor and proceeded to position herself out of reach under the bed. All I had to do to get her to come out was place the bin on the floor and here she comes full speed.

Now I have a Dubia breeding colony setup in my bedroom much to my wife's dismay.

Our BD really loves the Dubia and I find them much easier to deal with when compared to crickets.

I hope this helps...

I just got my little dubia order today - e-bay seller with good ratings - and they were all alive! Pogo is being a real pain in the behind - still can't get him to eat - not even the dubia. I have had to resort to cricket/collard/squash mash in an eye dropper to get him to eat anything - I can get him to take a little bit that way. I feel like he rolls his eyes at me when I try to feed him! He is going to vet if he doesn't stop this hunger strike soon. And I too think I will venture into dubia breeding if he does get his appetite back! :)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
