Ridley is a good eater. Always has been. He's open to trying new foods, insect or veggie, though he is a bit spoiled since I hand feed him. >.>
His new absolute favorite thing? Strawberries! He lost his mind for strawberries this year. Given the choice between a strawberry slice and a fat super worm...he will go for the strawberry. Of course, he will also try and stuff the super in his mouth at the same time given the opportunity, but I digress. lol Last year his favorite was bell peppers and grapes, but now he will turn his nose up at peppers completely, and will only take grapes if nothing else is forth coming.
He's also on strike against mustard greens, which is a new thing, as his salad base has always been mustard and collard greens previously. He prefers endive/escarole instead, and will climb the cage to get to fresh-from-the-garden cilantro stems. Of course, he never liked cilantro before, until I rolled some up and crammed it into his mouth while he was chewing a fat, tasty dubia. >.>
Ridley is almost a year and a half now (where has the time gone?!) and I'm always surprised at the changes in his tastes. He has access to his regular salad daily, but the rest of his feeding schedule is very erratic - dubia, supers, or some random fruit or veggies in bursts when I feel like it. I've been trying to feed him whole leaf veggies and hide them around his cage or hang them from the side. I've always practiced captive foraging with my other animals and he seems to really enjoy it! His activity is through the roof, and he's always rooting around looking for things to nibble after I walk away from his tank. I'm happy to see him up and active and not just laying like a lump. lol His little arms and legs are all buff and muscular from the running around this summer.
What are you guys doing to keep your dragons active and happy? Any interesting diet changes or new foods for you this season?
