Last night my baby went without any light. THe temp measured 65 but he took 3 hours to wake up this morning and seemed very lethargic. This may be normal, but I will need to purchase something for winter anyways. I have the red light, but it seems to keep him up. Has any one used the Hagen Exo Terra Heat Emitter (a ceramic bulb) to heat at night? Is it a good purchase. I also have an under tank heater that I don't use because it is said it will burn his belly.

I haven't used that CHE but the ceramic heaters are much better then the red lights as (like you said) it disturbs sleep patterns. If you put your under tank heater on the side of your tank a few inches above your substrate (where he can't lean against it) he won't be able to burn himself....just an idea :D

THanks for the advice. I don't use substrat, just paper towels. I will try the ceremic heater. DO you think he needs a little more heat or is this normal behavior for baby beardies?

I could be wrong on this.....but I think they are just like us in regards to some are morning beardies and some are not. Some days Vinny is up and basking as soon as her lights are on, other days she just gives me the evil eye as if to say "why didn't you hit the snooze button? :angry5: "

As long as your overnight temps aren't dropping too low then I wouldn't be overly concerned - but I'm not expert so take my advice lightly :)

I love the CHE's. Just make sure that you turn them off BEFORE you set them down any where... learned that one the hard way. Also, if you ever need anyone to care for your beardie make sure they know what it is and how to use it (my family melted the plastic around the side of my tank while my beardie was in their care).

Anyway, I love them.

Overhead, just like a basking light. I have mine centered in my viv. They need a cool down time at night so I only use a 60w CHE, just enough to keep it from getting too cold.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
