Ceramic heat emitters, dead crickets

Now that we're in the summer months is it necessary to continue to use the CHE at night. We regulate the temp at 77 degrees. Also another question, which is probably a no brainer. On the average about 5 to 10% of my crickets die. Until 2 months ago, I would go ahead and feed them to Mrjaws. Then I thought that I would not eat rotten food full of bacteria and parasites, so I stopped giving them to him and sterilized the keeper before the next supply. What do you think? :study:

Hello,

I would definitely not feed any that are dead. You mean you just fed the ones that were in the same bin?
If the bin stays 75+ during the summer then you shouldn't need to keep the ceramic heat emitter on right now.
How are you keeping them, are they too crowded & does it get too humid in there? What do you use for a watering source for them?
It would get costly to throw all of them out all of the time. Did he get ill from you feeding from the same bin or not?

Tracie,
Thank you for your reply. Forgive me for not responding sooner. I am still trying to learn about communicating on this board. My house stays at 78 degrees, so I will turn off the CHE. Thanks for that tip. My crickets are kept in a 10 gal file box. Plenty of ventilation. I use Flukers Cricket Quencher and also a damp sponge in a small bowl to keep them hydrated. Water added every day. I feed them Tetramin Tropical Flakes(normally fed to fish. The flakes are gone in a very short time. Also I have plenty of egg crates for them to hide :study:

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
