Give your cat a hug for me, would you? That your cat would be that gentle with a beardie, it's wonderful. And also wonderful that you're keeping it. Good for you. Talk about a feline rescue! You'll get lots of good advice on this forum. We have 5 beardies and we keep our two youngest, who are 10 mo old, on newspaper, easy to clean up messes and replace. We use our local newspaper, fits perfectly in the tank. I feed squash (I just mince it up in a food processor), then cut up greens: I use mainly organic dandelion (from my backyard), organic collard greens and baby bok choy (I live near Vancouver, BC, Canada and don't get alot of good greens up here). The list at
http://www.beautifuldragons.com (under nutrition) has a great list of the best veggies, greens to chop up and give your little one. I've found that making the salad into really small pieces helps interest them. Glad to hear he/she's eating crickets. He's going to need his crickets fed, there is great cricket food in pellets and I used to just add minced squash. Crickets seem to really like squash, apple, potato to munch on. They also need protein, which is where the pellets come in handy. Then the crickets feed your beardie and add nutrition. I give our beardies a
bath daily, for those who poop in the tub, then clean & soak again. I also give them water from an oral syringe. Veggies and crickets that are fed add alot of water to the diet, too.
Beardies are alot of fun, ours really like to cuddle before they go to sleep. Individually, of course. So have lots of fun, there's always someone to ask questions of on this site. Welcom to bd.org!!
