So I ordered 500 1/2" crickets from Carolina crickets. These prices were good, I thought cool. I got it in 2 days, yesterday, which was cool. I opened it to find they were way smaller than expected, more like 1/4". But oh well my dragon should eat em just more of them, right. So today Im feeding in the morn and alomst half of them are dead. WTF. Then a im feeding, I find a creepy spider in with the crix. I know wasnt there before them, then tank was clean and empty. So now im worried if the crix are even safe for my beardie now. What else is infesteting these crix. The spider looks like a black widow, but brown and instead of a red or yellow hourglass, it has a tan hourglass. Unfortunatly our dragon is on a dubia strike, so crickets half to be an option. I just wanted to get this out there for others to hear.

Have you tried contacting the seller? Normally they'd be willing to send out a box free of charge, especially if they sent you the wrong size. Some have a stipulation, though, that you have to contact them within a certain number of hours (say 24 hours) after receipt.

If you don't trust this supplier anymore, I'd chalk it up to a loss and learning experience (which it sounds like you're going to do anyways). I'm not sure about the spider but here's a chart showing all the venomous and dangerous spiders in the US:

http://www.termite.com/spider-identification.html

I wouldn't be worried if the spider you see isn't on that list.

I did contact them , and they responded quickly. They said they dont use any chemicals around the crickets so its impossible to keep all the spiders out. They apologized and gave me credit towrds their store if I wanted to get more. They also said that they would look into their sizing. So Ima chalk it up as a loss and not order there again.

Im just curious, if my dragon were to have eaten a spider on accident, how bad would that be?? Also the spider is not on that list a poisonious spiders. Its still creepy, with distinctive markings. YUCK!! LOL

I guess it would depend on the kind of spider. It probably should be ok but if you dragon has eaten a spider, keep a close eye on behavior and poops. If anything seems out of the ordinary, you can post in the Health section or take him directly to a vet.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
