Hi,

I don't own a beardie yet, but I would like to get one in the late spring. I am looking at mainly adults, a preferably a rescue. Anyway, I live in the States for four months out of the year and Canada for the other eight (I'm a student). How well do Beardie's travel in the car? The distance is about six and a half hours, and I would be going back and forth at least twice during the year. :) Thanks in advance for any tips.

It depends on the dragon, but most of them do not have issues with car travel. Dora made an 11 hour car trip on my lap when we brought her home from California without any problem. My other 2 haven't been on trips quite as long as that, but they don't seem to mind either. One thing to keep in mind would be to keep newspapers down if they're not traveling in their tank in case of "accidents", and a leash in case they decide to explore so they don't put either of you in danger wandering about the cab.

Pheonix loves to go in the car... he will sit on the dash and sun himself! He beards me when he is feeling a little to cold and needs the heat on, looks out the window and seems to enjoy mellow music more so than punk...lol
Anyways, travel was a point of great concern for me also as we have been moving between provinces alot lately but Pheonix has done well. He even moves down to a floor mat when needing to poo and only pooed in my purse once when I was not paying attention to his dance:)
He now even comes on weekend trips with us!
I think it would really depend on your beardies personality. I considered using a tubberware tote to transport Pheonix but he was not happy with the view, his favorite blanket seems to keep him from wandering to far!

Its funny i take cinder on car trips more than my dogs lol. she likes to go see my cousins down in aurora colorado and she even has her own tank in ger own room (i think its because my grandpa doesnt like the scaley creatures[least favorite being snakes]) o well she also sits on the dash and likes the passing scenery the music has to be quiet but other than that she loves the car trips

Thank you all for the responses...it's making me feel a lot more confident about car trips when I get my Beardie. I was also wondering how many of you who do travel with them, take the full set-up too?

I have found that Scorch loves to go for rides in the car. She also likes all the attention she gets when we get where we're going. I would definitely recommend a heat source for a very long car ride unless you like the car really hot. They make those thermacare heat wraps that you can buy for a couple bucks that stay hot for around 8 hours and you could place it under a blanket for a cozy warm dragon. If you were going on vacation for say a week you could easily get a large plastic tote, clamp for the uvb on the side, basking rock and use paper towels for substrate. At least that is what I am planning on when we take our Easter vacation the begining of April. The Hubby says that he doesn't trust anyone to care for Scorch properly (spoiled) so I guess she will be coming along on all the family vacations from now on. I even checked with the airlines and if you are flying and have a doctor's note stating you are afraid of flying and your beardie is a service animal that calms you they can go right along with you on the plane in a little dog purse free of charge. :D If you are the type of person that travels allot the trip to the doctor is allot cheaper than trying to bribe someone to babysit.

I would love to see the stewardess' face as she stops to offer you a beverage  Double take

Cori used to be a little unsure about the car. But after a few trips he became totally fine. Now he likes to dit in my lap and look out the window. I don't have the heart to tell him he isn't a dog.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
