I just adopted my first beardie about 4 days ago, a 3 year old female. I was expecting some relocation stress and I'm most likely just fretting over nothing because I know I tend to be a worrier - but I want to get an opinion here before I take any kind of action towards doing something for her. She's incredibly tame around people, and not startled or really upset by being handled - so I know she must have had a very one-on-one owner before me.
This is a picture of her setup, it's a 40gal breeder with a regular 60watt floodlight for heat and a reptisun 10.0 UVB strip across the middle. Since I got her, she's pretty much only eaten maybe 1-3 bites of collard leaves once in the afternoon, and refuses anything else - including bugs. She spends all her time up in her basking spot (which I monitor with an infrared zoomed gun, it stays around 100-105) and has only gotten down from it to explore her tank a few times. Originally, she had a hide without an opening - and she never got down the first two days I had her, and then I built her the new one that you see in the picture - and she's started the habit of getting down from her basking spot after sunning herself for a while, scratching around all the corners of the inside of the hide, and then settling down with her head facing the hole in the front. I know she's dehydrated as her skin does not snap back the way it should, so I gave her a bath today and she drank a good bit of water and soaked for about 10 minutes. I'm thinking about doing that daily until she starts eating better, but I want an opinion from someone who's been raising beardies for a while about what you think is going on.
I took a whole bunch of pictures of her abdomen because I wasnt sure what angle was needed -
As well as an above shot -
Her abdomen feels pretty squishy to me, but I really am not sure as I'm new to all of this, and I'm worrying myself half to death over her lethargic behavior. Do you think I should get a laybox prepped for her or just keep offering food and bathing her until she feels better after relocating??
EDIT:
Here's a picture of what she does when she goes into her hide, I'm a little bit concerned that her mouth is slightly hanging open? The temp inside is about 88 degrees right now.
