I am trying to make a dubia bin that has 2 parts and the little ones can fall through and go into the bottom part which is the feeder bin (i can post pics later). But now that im thinking about it, hot glue is my only line of defense against escapees. Will they be able to chew through the hot glue and get out? Has anyone had any experience with dubia doing this?

I've never seen them chew through hot glue.

I suppose it's possible, but I've never seen it and
certainly wouldn't be too concerned over it.

However, it sounds like you're intending to make
a "permanent sorter" as part of your bin. You most
likely don't want to do that.

You want babies in with the adults (a full colony
makes them happier) and you want the frass to
accumulate a little as the babies eat some of it.

I just keep my breeder bin and feeder bin seperated.
Then about once a month, I seperate a bunch of feeders
into the feeder bin (not even all of them, just enough to
last me about a month). That way I'm only bothering
the breeder bin once a month (plus the occassional clean-out).

It also sounds like you'll be gluing some type of screen to allow the babies and frass to fall through. Although I have never experienced this, I met a roach guy at a herp fair and he told me he tried somethng like that, and the roaches ate through the screen! I didn't think to ask if he thought they ate through the screen or the glue, though.

In either case, I agree with Soulwind. It makes more sense to sort once a month either the old fashioned way (by hand) or using the bucket method. But if you decide to give it a shot, I look forward to seeing pics of the enclosure! :D

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
