... but my instinct tells me they shouldn't be in the house.

Good instincts! I have the same feeling, which is why I just can't bring myself to switch, at least, not yet. Where I live, we have roaches that can grow up to 4 inches long ... And they can fly. :puke: I work hard to keep insects (especially roaches) OUT of my home, so it's really hard to get past the fact that I would willingly bring roaches inside.

So you only feed worms? No crickets or roaches at all? Smauggie-girl is too little to eat the supers.

jenn... I measure my biggest boy last night he is exactly 14"... I sat there and told him he needs to grow 2 more inches over night if he wants worms.. or he will have to eat crickets. I dont think he understood because he just tilted his head like "what?! (crazy human)" :?

Mine is at 13 inches, and I know that's how it goes, but I kinda miss the tiny 6 inch Smaugarita, with the round head.

Are the supers better than the Phoenix worms?

i think phoenix are the best as far as calcium content go.. they are pretty even on the protein side... but you need a lot of them to equal one super. lol

Just the supers as a staple with occasionally wax and/or phoenix worms. But he eats a lot of greens and fruits, seems to prefer that.

But keep in mind this dragon was fed mostly mealworms as an adult so I feel we are doing better for him with the supers (and veggies) and it's really the best option since we don't have a local pet store and the supers are easy to get delivered and keep for a long time. I just get a few hundred medium sized supers and feed the biggest ones while the others grow.

Might not be the absolute best for the dragon but it's the best we can do right now.

I have my dubia in two rubbermaid containers, one is for breeders and one is for feeders. They are stacked on top of each other, with the lids askew off of the containers on each one, for ventilation. I have NEVER had a dubia escape, baby or adult. On the other hand, I stopped feeding him crickets about 2 months ago, and last night I heard one chirping in the laundry room.....just saying.

I have found crickets in places they shouldn't be, like crawling out from under the closet door of the main bathroom while I was taking a bath. I can't figure out how, since my youngest cat will catch them and eat them. Crickets are definitely a form of evil.

On the other hand, those tubs of roaches kinda freak me out. I *might* be able to trick myself into thinking they are beetles, but I don't know. Is one dubia equal to one cricket? Or do you find that your BDs eat fewer of the dubias than the crickets at one time?

I think of them as rolly pollies.. just a wee bit bigger.. they eat far less of these compared to crickets.. nutritional value is better as well..and its easier for them to eat them. I put them in a small deli cup and the beardies jump right in and eat them no chasing crickets around and bumping their nose into the glass.

one climbed on her tail while she was stuffing her face.

i dont worry about them getting out of the cup and biting them when they sleep like with crickets which is nice.

Such a cute pic! I remember playing with rolypoly bugs as a kid! Maybe I could handle it, I don't know.

Okay, so I hot-glued another layer of screen under the screen mesh which had holes in it. Guess what? I have MORE holes, going through both layers, and I'm finding crickets all over the house. :banghead:

Well, that means I'm not coming over for dinner! :puke:
:D :D

That screen must be nylon or something similar. Look for stainless steel, or another metal screen, and that should stop them...or the cats.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
