Can Bearded Dragons go for walks on a leash?

I'm just wondering because I think thats so awesome! Do you need a special kind of leash for a Bearded Dragon? If you walk your Bearded Dragon what reactions do you get from people who walk their Dogs outside when they see a Bearded Dragon on a leash? Do they freak out and run or do they envy you for having a unique pet?

I have a Beardie harness that I purchased on here and we would take Havoc to the park and walk him around, he enjoyed it and everyone would come see him and ask questions and show him love, no negative comments or reactions from anyone.

I do it alll the time when the weather is nice. The natural sun and fresh air is good for him. My dragon loves to eat the clover on the lawn but be sure the grass Isn't treated with chemicals. Just don't expect him to actually "heel" and walk like a dog down the street, the leash is just a tether so they can't get away and get lost.

We take Beastie down to the Beaches in Toronto with us every day the weather is nice. He started out on a leash...just a little rabbit/ferret leash that was red...and after a couple of excursions, we didn't use the leash any longer. He's happy on my shoulder or on the grass, and he enjoys the ability to run aroud a bit. No, he doesn't go far, and yes, we constantly keep our eye on him. Dogs don't notice him at all - seriously!! They just sniff all around him, sometimes sniff him, and then move on. Beastie also enjoys climbing a couple feet up a tree, and once there, he usually falls asleep. We get lots of attention, and lots of kids pet and hold him. It's funny; 90% of the people that see him say, "oh cool, look at the iguana".
Infact my husband and I just returned from a 20 day road trip. We drove down to Florida and spent a lovely two weeks relaxing in the sun and sightseeing. Beastie, well accustomed to travelling in the car, his carrier (the kind for dogs that looks like a duffle bag - $24 @Walmart), and travelling around, really enjoyed the trip and the car rides. Even crossing the boarder was no issue...just one very simple form from Fish and Wildlife.
So, yes. You can take your beardie out on a leash (or off!), and enjoy all kinds of adventures with him/her. When we're out at restaurants or grocery shopping, we take him in with us in his carrier while he assumes what we call 'incognito mode'...no one has ever asked what was in the bag, and we never told them. And he stays in the bag whenever there's food or eating in public. Enjoy your beardie and know that he/she may be skittish at first. Be patient and always make sure YOU are his safe place.

I do take Vladie out in public off lead like Beasiesmommy described too. I only use the leash (mine is a "ferret harness") if I am going to let him sit in the grass as a precaution, but he's never even tried to run away. I take him shopping with me to the Petsmart or even some other shops like the drug store and what not and have only had positive interactions. For traveling his favorite way to be carried is against my chest inside a 3/4 zipped hoodie so that his body is secure & warm but he can poke his head out & look around. I have had the same experience as Beastiesmommy, about 75% of people think he is an Iguana! LOL. Kids love him and I think it's really good for Vlad too. I think spending time being socialized with new people & being in new environments is what helps my beardie be a really well adjusted and friendly guy. I can let anyone hold him and just about nothing phases him now. We call him the "Lizard Ambassador" because even people who were didn't like or were afraid of lizards fall in love with him when they meet him because he is so chill and laid back :)

Absolutely, imderanged! I'm with you 100% - especially about people who are freaked out at first. Beardies are so chilled out and cute and loveable; even the people who 'don't like lizards' are petting and wanting to hold them after a few minutes.

both Mr Dargon and Tasty Treat go out on their leashes.

I've Taken Mr Dargon on errands with me to the dollar store, pet store, library and post office. i get stopped and asked a lot of questions.

he NEEDS the harness because when he sees someplace he wants to go he will fight to get there. even trying to climb down my back as i am walking.

they do not walk on the leash like dogs do (he's turned around and glared at me when i tried this).

the harnesses are a safety precaution mostly, if they get startled they may try to run. also a good idea if you want them to interact with other people since they may try to hide from them

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
