Hello,

I’m new to all the beardy stuff, and I’m starting to get worried about me little friend, unfortnatleu we don’t know the sex to it yet, so it’s a it I’m afraid.

Any help who be greatly appreciated.

I purchased a BD on Friday last week, for the first two days it ate a few locus and a few crickets, but now he has stopped eating all together. Just eats a few rocket leaves when it feels like it, we had to take it to the vets on Tuesday as it’d has now got mites, they pet shop seem very determined that none of the other ones have the, but guess they would say that. The vet gave him a injection and it’s got to go back next week. He just seems very lethargic, he was more active this morning and now it seems to be playing dead. I'm not sure if its the temperature, every website says something different. The pet shop said it wasn’t that old, didn’t seem to sure how old,it’s 15cm long, to the end of his bum not inc his tail, we saw his parents and they looked healthy.

Have you cleaned your beardie's cage yet? Mites can hide in wood and other furniture you might have in your beardie's house so it's best to clean everything and bake the wooden items. I'm not sure how often you should be cleaning the cage if there are mites, but I would suggest daily if you can just to be on the safe side. By the way, what are you using for substrate? And what are those temperatures again? Also, if you can let us know what kind of UVB light you're using it would be a great help. I'm sure someone on here can help you with their vast knowledge. :wink:

Did the vet give an injection for the mites? That is what I am assuming he has done. When did he receive the injection?
Do you know exactly what he was given, the name of the medication? If you don't know offhand, can you please call the vet to find out exactly what was given?
I am afraid he might have been given Ivermec or Ivermectin which is a toxic agent/drug for most reptiles & all chelonians. Try to start hydrating him daily right now with oral fluids with a plastic syringe or plastic dropper.

Let us know how he is doing.

Thankyou all,

We have taken all items out of his tank, and he is just on newpaper as the pet shop gave us wooden chips, but he kept messing them with his food, so we took them out. The temps are 34 on the hot side and 24 on the cool side, we are using a tube light which came with the set up, fink its a 10 uvb, and a blue heat bulb, we do have a 100w red light to go in, bt the light fitting need adjusting to hold the heavier light. We clean the tank everyday and replace the paper etc.

before i took him to the vets, i called around to find a specialist and all vets in my local area recommend the reptile specialist which is who i took him too, so hopefully they knew what they was doing. I'm not sure what injection he was given, i didnt take him myself, all i know was they said it was for the mites, he was given it on tuesday, on his right side, my bf said he seemed a bit cheesed off, but i wouldnt of blamed him, and said to return next week for another one.

If i begin to feed him through a syrine, what kinda food do i give him?? and how oftern should i keep trying??

when i out the light on this morning, about half an hour after he began to move around a bit more, but not alot.

Hello, I am new to this site however your temps appear to be off. Basking temperatures need to be between 35-43C cold side 25-27C. You need to have a basking light (white light) not blue or red. Coloured lights keep beardies awake at night. If you do need to heat the tank at night you need to use a ceramic heat emitter which gives off heat only, not light. UVB globe to be 6"-8" from basking site.
