can anyone give me advise on heating

can anyone help as im running out of ideas we have a 4 ft viv with a 60w basking bulb and a uvb light 6 to 8 inches from the basking area- and we cant get the cool side to 85....we have moved the basking light right over we were told to up to the uvb but that make .1 of a difference we have purchased a dimmer but it doesnt keep the basking area at no more that 97 ( we have a baby) and we have tried a 40 w bulb which kept cold side 87 and basking side at 100

help would be fab coz i think this may be affexcting our beardie he is 4 mths old we have been told and only 9 inches long

Hmm I was having a similar issue and ended up having to raise the platform while dimming the bulb. At first i just folded up a towel under his basking rock, now I've purchased a wide base water dish that i place upsidedown and put his rock on it.

Dimmers only work for giving the bulb less wattage, which gives less heat off.

So if you are trying to get a higher basking temperature, you will need a bigger wattage bulb. Since you have a dimmer, if the bulb makes it too hot for the basking side, you can dim it down until its the temp you need.

Its strange that your cool side is that high when your basking spot is only in the upper 90s.

What are you measuring your temps with?
