Hello fellow roach breeders currently I have a started a colony of Dubia's 41 females and 3 males in a breeding bin and 200+ Large, Medium, and Small roaches in another bin. I'm thinking of buying a 300 Mixed colony of Lobster roaches until my Dubia colony is up to speed.

1. Do Lobster roaches smell that bad?
2. How fast would 300 roaches with 75 Mixed Gender adults multiply estimated?

Just a few questions I'm still doing my research but I figured a little input from fellow breeders might help speed up the process. If I get good responses I'll be making the order tomorrow morning.

Hey Rookie, Lobsters dont smell that bad but breed very quick the down fall to them is they can climb anything even glass! So Vaseline barrier is needed at the top so they cant escape. :D

Another down side to lobs is that they eat anything. meaning it is just as bad if one is "lost" in your dragons bin as it would be for a few crix to be out. That and lobsters are a species that has a capability to infest your home.

Thank you both for your responses, but one thing I read was that Lobsters don't have the potential to infest especially in a cold evironment. Well I live in England right now but if theres a chance they could breed and infest than their definitely out. It took 3 days and Powerpoint presentation for me to convince the wife that dubia's were safe lol. j/k on the PP presentation but the chance of infestation would be bad. How likely is it?

In the southeast here in the US I know it is a strong possibility. I couldnt tell you in regards to cold weather. But as fast as they are and as fast as they climb it just worries me. My preference with climbing species is hissers. they are prolific breeders like lobsters (giving birth to 70-80 nymphs every 2 months).

Lobsters have only entered my home once and that was by accident.

If you are looking for a cheap fast breeding roach to hold you over till your dubia are up and running I would suggest Turks (also called red runners). They are fast and are comprobably nutrient wise to a cricket but healthier. They do not climb well but breed extremely fast.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
