Calcium dish?

We don't do this, we dust (2-3 month old beardie), but doesn/has anyone ever successfully used a calcium filled dish for their bd? I know some owners of Leos do, but hadn't heard of it for bd's?

Just intrigued I guess, as Draco has eaten excess calcium powder that has fallen off dusted crickets before.

Cheers

Agreed, if you just give them calcium to eat as they please they probably won't take the right dosage. Nef will lick hi food dish clean if I give him dusted worms, he'd probably just eat any calcium that was put in a dish.

Ahh.. ok cool, thanks for the advice guys. Like I say, we haven't actually done this, and have been dusting as said on the link (thanks for that anyway, more info is always better), but we had just got curious after seeing Leos being given it in this way. Knowing Draco, I think your right, he'd just clean up as much as we gave him lol

Thanks again

Fal 8) (So hot here at the moment - for NW England anyway lol - and Draco is loving sitting on our shoulder in the sun, soaking up the natural rays. It's so nice to finally have him tame enough that he doesn't try to jump off or escape... so very rewarding)!

It's good that you're giving him some natural sun, but be careful, even when they're tamed they can still get scared outside and bolt off. There have been a few threads recently about dragons getting lost outside. I would recommend investing in a lizard harness as a backup when you have him outside.

A while ago I saw a great thread in the DIY section about making leashes... Now I can't find it. But anyways, the T-Rex ones are great, that's what I use for Budo. :D

I guess we need to be real careful because he's still young too! I think he's too small for a harness at the moment though, but will bear all that in mind, really hate the thought of him getting lost

I've asked somewhere else, but after reading the link above, I realise we've been doing everything except offering dusted vitamins! Can you guys recommend one? I heard the Rep Cal one is good, but it isn't available (or doesn't seem to be) in the UK. I have found this one though:

http://www.premierpetsandaquatics.c...ssivite-reptile-vitamin-supplement---50g.html

...and wondered what you thought? It seems to have the correct ratio of vits 100:10:1

Cheers :D

Ooh also, while I am picking brains, the link you supplied also mentiuoned silkworms as being a good staple! Are they ok (if small enough of course) for three month old bd's?

Thanks again folks!

Here's the leash I use for Budo. I don't remember what size his was, but I believe it was the "Small (Gecko)" one, as it was a bit tight at first and I did have to cut around the edges, and I can't imagine him in an iguana leash. The "X-Small (Swifts)" or "XX-Small (Anoles)" would be ideal for a baby beardie.

Yes, RepCal Herptivite is probably the best multivit supplement out there. I have never heard of this JurassiVit, but it doesn't look bad. Like Herptivite, it contains beta carotene instead of vitamin A, which is good.

Silkworms are a great staple; high in calcium, low in fat, and low in chitin. :D I know there are two worms that should not be fed to babies, supers and.... :? It might have been silkies, I honestly don't remember. I hope someone else can fill you in. I do know that phoenix worms are another great staple that are great for babies.

Oh cool! I never realised you could get them that small! I've only seen Iguanas, Monitors and adult BD'd in them before, so that's cool thanks!

As for the RepCal Herptivite, it's a shame I can't seem to find it in the UK, but I'm glad the one I found seems to have the right stuff! I'll await any further comments on it (not that I don't trust you :D but the more the merrier as I am sure you will agree)!

As for the Silkworms, they seem hard to find also in the UK, although my brother reckons one of the stores near us has them! So we will most definately give them a whirl as long as we can find them small enough (not sure how big they are at what stage).

Thanks again for the help!!

Yep, they come teeny. It's kind of hard to see some of them. Perfect for baby beardies.

Get some more opinions for sure. I've never heard of it before, I'm just going by the description.

Cool! Wish I had a store around here that sold anything besides crickets and mealies.

Yeah it's good our stores sell locusts, but shame they don't sell silkworm, and what seems like the only source of them in the UK is out of stock due to the current heatwave.

I've ordered that vit on the link I posted. Best I could find with the right stuff and the closest to the stuff you guys use. Will see how it goes :)

Ah, yes, heat is a problem with silkies. Locusts are good, too.

Good luck! Let me know what you think of it.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
