Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of moving and of course Kenny is coming with me. The area in the house I am moving him into that has the most space for Kenny is the loft. The loft has no windows and no natural light. Will it be weird for him to be in his tank completely surrounded by darkness? Should I keep a light on? This is also going to be my studio space but of course I will not be home all day. When I come home I will turn the lights on and do my normal taking him out and giving him exercise routine. Will he be okay in a dark room until I come home from work? Of course his lights for his tank will remain on. Sorry if this is a silly question but I just thought of it and wondered if it would be a problem! Thanks for reading :D Any thoughts or suggestions would be lovely!

At the very least I'd make sure you have plenty of lights in the cage. I feel like my cage is too dark just in my living room with a reptisun T8 and a basking light. I'd defiantly look at outfitting more bright bulbs (mindful of heat of course) for a dark room.

Another thing to consider, I'm not sure if it would be a little mentally depressing or not. He won't get to see too much and I get the impression they are more cheerful when they can watch out a window or with activity in the room.

Thanks of the reply! I just moved him in the loft two two days ago and he seems to be adjusting well. His tank lights actually make the room around him brighter. I hope he doesn't get sad being up in the loft. My boyfriend and I have been up here doing work in these past few days so he hasen't been alone. It is hard to tell if he is sad or not because he is such a lazy boy haha. Besides his normal play time with me he really doesn't move around in his cage too much. His environment is rather different though. He was near a large picture window before in a house with a dog and my two sisters moving about. Here he is in the loft with no windows and it is certainly much more calm and quite. He was glass dancing quite a bit this past month or so at the house. I had a feeling it was because of things he might be seeing outside.

I feel a little silly for fussing so much over moving him but I just want him to be happy! He's my little buddy and I just want to see him well :blob5:

Dragon happiness is difficult to "read", especially when they are lazy. But, the brain stimuli is important, IMO. He'll probably do fine in the loft or anywhere else you put a dragon, but I can't imagine our dragon thriving in a loft. Ours is also very lazy, but he loves being lazy watching TV or watching me from his viv, or watching the birds and trees move when he is laying on the top of the couch, looking out the window.

Is there a reason you can't keep him in the living room or some place where there is more interaction and stimulation for his brain? That would be a bigger concern for me than in a darkened area. I sometimes feel sorry for him staring at nothing while we're at work, but at least he sees objects outside of his viv, etc. I couldn't imagine him just sitting and staring at his four walls all the time, until someone goes up to the loft to pay attention to him. With Rin in the living room, we HAVE TO notice him, because he is right there, to the left of the TV, and he can even see me in the kitchen, cooking, which he perks up to as well. Anything that can stimulate his eyes is better than just being in the viv with nothing else day in and day out.

This is going to be a big change for your guy, and the fact that he is glass dancing tells me that he wants the stimuli, or at least wants visual interaction.

Whoops! He was glass dancing in his old location. Sorry the way I said it wasn't very clear. I wasn't sure why he started glass dancing before. I assumed it may have been because of the increased activity outside. He was pretty close to a large window. The rest of the home is pretty dark besides the one bedroom and the kitchen. I hope my boy will be okay! I take him out everyday to play for a few hours. I'm not sure what else to do.

Taking him out and playing with him and letting him explore will be very helpful. If you aren't going to be around. Perhaps you can create some kind of small diversion for him. I have a photo mobile hanging from the ceiling next to Cooper's tank and he stares at it a lot. Even when he's out of his tank sometimes he'll stop and look up at it for a while. If I lift him up to it to get a closer look he paws at it and tries to climb on top of it. It's simple but it seems to go a long way to make him happy. Especially when he's home alone all day. Something along those lines should be pretty simple to put together and may help.

Good news everyone! My roommate said I could move him into the office. Kenny now has a lovely window to look out and doesn't have to be in the dark anymore. I just moved him today. I'm so happy :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
