Cactus ?

Hey guys so my beardie has bee refusing to eat his veggies or fruit or his salad and i've tried everything !! from worms in his dish to not giving him any crickets till he eats his salad and nothing.... so i was thinking of maybe trying cactus ?? does anyone know if their safe and what kind ?? i think i little cactus in with his veggies might give him an enticing meal

pictures too ?? lol

so i know what to look for when i'm buying thanks so much

I buy mine Nopales. They are a flat, green cactus leaf and my babies love it. It's a great staple according to Beautifuldragons.com due to it's calcium content. I usually find one with very little/no spikes on them however if they do have the little spikes on them I just cut them off and cut up the rest of the cactus. They're relatively cheap depending on where you live.

Another thing you might consider is prickly pears. They're little purple fruits that grow on cactus. I haven't tried them yet for my babies but they have high amounts of calcium as well. They're prepared in pretty much the same way. If you haven't tried them yourself you should try them because they're delicious.

Hmm...I'm not sure about finding them in Canada. I live in Arizona so I have them in all the grocery stores around me. You might have to look around a bit for them.

lol i have a mom that goes to like plant nursuries this time of year so i can ask her to take a look for me or at least ask them i'll keep googling for them though i might get lucky

Have you tried arugula? It took me a whole year to finally get my dragon Eve to eat greens and Arugula is what she settled for, she's incredibly picky. For a while collard greens was working but only chopped well and mixed with cilantro.

when he was a baby he ate kale collard and endive kale being a once a week thing .... but i havent been able to find endve for him and that was his fave lol i've tried dandilion greens i didnt think arugala was a safe staple for them ?? i'll have to try that too thanks

I haven't seen anything definitive that it was bad. (Information on people using it as a staple seems to very in success) I mean Eve is so picky I figure at least she's eating greens now when before she wouldn't at all, that has to be better then nothing. I wish she would go back to eating collards but she doesn't like it anymore, not that she really liked it in the first place that much.

Arugula is a great green to offer in the "staples" category.
Personally I don't offer nopales often, pepper doesn't like them anyway and they don't seem very balanced. Other greens and veggies (you can supllement them if they have a poor ca ratio) might temp your little one.

Not sure why your friend "has" to feed iceberg - even romaine and other dark lettuces are better and not much more expencive.

Ik I'm nagging her to try something that's better for her lizard but I'm working on it I'll deffinately try arugula and see if I can hunt down some endive I heard they can have the tops of radishes ? Or was it turnips ... I did try mixing with raspberries that's I ripped up etc but he picked out the rasp Berry goopies and ate around the collard greens lol silly boy and blue berries he doesn't like anymore either haha I tried mango he kinda just liks and walks away and is like haha I ain't eaten that lol I even tried a little bit of baby squash .... He laid in it and got himself really gross I had to bath him like 4 times that week to get it all off can u try any other fruits ??
