Cactus fruit???

I was wondering if it's safe to feed a young finicky (picky eater) seems to only like meat(meal worms and crickets) won't touch veggie's. The cactus fruit I"m speaking of is the reddish purplish bulb that grow's from the side of cactus. Having no stickers or hairs, very smooth. I'm very new here and this is my first dragon, who I love as if he or she was my only child(allot less messy) Hope some one can help me out here. Thank's...Beardies RULE!!! :?

You really shouldn't use mealworms for bearded dragons. Keep with the crickets and try to look into roaches, reptiworms, butterworms, silkworms, or hornworms instead. As far as veggies go, babies and juvies typically won't eat too much of it. It's a good idea to leave some out for them to nibble on if they get curious. I usually put in a small, chopped up salad in the morning before feeding insects just in case they were hungry enough to check them out.

Yes, prickly pear and the young pads are great for bds. I have some large Opuntia ficus-indica cuttings & 2 potted. I want to get a Opuntia robusta and maybe a smaller variety to mix it up the fruits. A nursery nearby has a nice variety to choose from, if I don't find any by the roadside. :mrgreen:
