Buzzing sound from light fixture?

I just got a Fluker's 36" fixture for the 36" Reptisun 10.0 tube. Is it normal that it makes a very loud buzzing sound? The fixture also gets kinda warm, but that may be because there's a mirror built into the fixture to direct more light downwards.

I wanted to throw in this question: where do you guys keep your tank? The living room, the hallway, your bedroom? Obviously, it can't be the bathroom, with the constantly changing temp and humidity. I can't make an outdoor enclosure for him...not at this point in time, anyway.

My boy's viv is in the livingroom so he can watch TV and be where the most action is.

You may want to check the silver tube thing. Mine tends to buzz when it is getting too old, and needs changing. They go for around a buck at aquarium stores.

I had ordered the fixture and bulb from petmountain.com a few months ago, and only installed it a few days ago because I wanted to get the most I could out of the previous bulb (I originally had an 18" bulb in a fixture I got from Home Depot). They've just been sitting in their boxes until a few days ago. So technically they're both brand new! I'm replacing the UVB bulb every 6 months, even though they say they last up to a year. I read that after 6 months, the amount of UVB output is severely lowered.

What is this "silver tube thing" you mention?

How could something be going bad if it's brand new? And what is a ballast?
