i have heard from some places they are really good and from other places they are more like a treat. i personally really like butterworms because all my lizards enjoy them and they can be stored in the fridge (big bonus for me!!). Sooo, after hearing the whole 'more like a treat' thing, (right after ordering 250 of them :angry5: of course..) i just thought I'd ask. are they good or no?

i was planning on butters and just buying random feeders (hornwoms, phoenix worms, crickets yada yada) on and off for variety

i just wanted to know if they can be used every day along with something else on and off.

I have heard a few times that butterworms are really fattening and should only be used as a treat. But I would wait for some more people to confirm this

Are butterworms maybe being confused with waxworms, which are really fattening and only for treats? I heard butterworms were a pretty okay staple as long as they got a little variety as well. Hmmm.

I think you are confusing butters with waxworms.

Butterworms are truly great feeders, no problem whatsoever, I fed my dragon just these for a whole month with no problems besides whole in wallet.

Waxworms are treats and should only be used as treats nothing else.

Hope this helps.

I've asked this question before and was told that butterworms are ok as a staple as long as used with another feeder. (not to feed 50 of them in one sitting, daily) Hope that helps.

I will be looking to order some myself.

I have also heard mixed opinions about butterworms. If I were you I'd keep at it, along with variety, as you said, and if your BD starts gaining a lot of weight, then you should probably change... but if your BD is in shape and healthy-looking, what can I say but keep it up?

Butterworms can cost you a pretty penny. Mulberry farms list 50 for $13.95 plus shipping.
I've been using them as my staple so I order the 250 ct from a bait shop for $30 even. They're http://www.beaverbait.com/default.asp I've had no problems with them. A 50 ct from them will cost you $12 w/free shipping.

Thanks for the info about beaverbait. I just ordered 250 butterworms from them. I've been wanting to try them for my dragons, but couldn't find a site with a reasonable price. Thanks again.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
