Hi I just got my dragon a few days ago from Petsmart I was on my way to the store to correct a lighting problem that was caused by the sales man telling me that the only light I needed was a UVA heat light, so he went with out UVB for about 2 days and did the puking meal worms and not eating crickets thing which I did see referenced in another post, he is still not eating. On my way out the door I looked over at him and he had puffed his eyes out of their sockets? I thought his eyes were going to pop out of his head. He say me and then put them back. I have not seen him do this again. Very strange ? . ?

I hope someone can help me help my new dragon

Hi. I am new to beardies also, but from reading other posts, bulging eyes are normal. Sometimes, they do that when they are about to shed. MIne hasn't done it yet, but from the other posts, it is quite a site to see.

Nope its 100% normal. Nothing you can do at all it just helps them loosen the shead around their eyes. It looks freaky i know :D I about died the first time i seen it.

How long does it take for them to shed their skin? Do the have any behavior changes or is this just something that does not effect them?

Their behavior and appetite can change! The shed can last a day to a week!! Just keep bathing your beardie to help him along!! And never help peel them!! Also wanted to say your beardie will go through what is called relocation stress! He may not eat for a week but still keep offering it to em!!! Good luck..

I did just get about 30 more crickets and a keeper for them at the pet store where I got him. The ladie their said that he may have internal parasites and she has never known a dragon to barff his food. From what I read here thats just normal stress or a problem handling the meal worms.

Well I gave him a bath he went nutz! I think he liked it alot! He swam around drank alot then poo'd, I changed the water right after that and he keept swimming/walking and drinking. After that his whole attitude changed, he was attentive, altert, and enguaged. Oh and he ate about 18 crickets over a 5 hour period. So much for the 30 I just got for him. LOL

I purchased a Beardie through petsmart and it was the biggest mistake i ever could have made. The one thing i can and will tell you is PetSmart has a 2 week gaurentee, no ??? asked and take em back. even if it is over the 2 week period argue it w/ the manager. Get your money back do not swap out for another sick one and go directly to a reputable breeder or pet stoe in your area that specializes in herps. Also do not take any advise from petsmart employees, for they rarely know the difference between their hind sides and elbows. Good luck to you.

I think your new little one is going to be fine. Probably overate the nasty mealworms... New beardies take time to act 'normal' as they go through relocation stress. I got my first one from Petco. Thank goodness I found this forum that same night or I don't know what would have happened with 'Alex'. I have also seen my Alex do the eye bulging thing... pretty scary the first time you see it. It is from shedding... when they shed some tend to not eat as much, so along with relocation and shedding, your little one is acting normal. The bath probably helped a lot. I give mine both baths every morning now and luckily they have both started going poo in there. So much easier than in their cages. Good luck with your little guy. :D

I just moved my little girl into a new cage in a different room, and she promptly threw up two days worth of food. It's just stress.

Thanks for ALL the help. He is just fine now, as a matter of fact he's eating like a little pig. Now he'll eat a cricket just for being dumb enough to get in his way. The first thing out of the Petsmart ladie was for me to bring him back so they could take him to the vet, lets just say I don't trust her very much anymore. I'll get my crickets from their but thats about it.

Thanks again for all the help!

One of my beardies looked as if he had crusted sustrate in his eye. I bathed him and gently wiped over the eye area and all the substate lookin stuff is gone. What is worrying me is that the eye looks clouded over? Is this normal or will he lose an eye? (The substrate I use is CalciSand)

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!

Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
