So i have two tanks (one gecko and one beardie) and I have burned 5 (yes five) bulbs in a months (yes 1 month). What is happening? All of them from several different fixtures (like 4 different ones). All of them Zilla brand, some basking and some black night ones. what is happening guys?

Zilla is crap, use regular household bulbs for heat. You shouldn't need night heat unless your house gets below 60* F and its best to use a ceramic heat bulb instead of a black, red or blue bulb.

well i know that zilla is crap but i don't think that this is justified by their quality. maybe something else is happening. now as for household bulbs, of course they do not emit any heat, especially not heat that reptiles need. I am waiting to see how my zoomed bulbs will do

a 100w clear household bulb emits plenty of heat

i tried many before i bought the proper ones so i could save some money but they did nothing. 3-4 inches from the basking spot and not even 80F

You use the old incandescents or the newer type? I've used nothing but soft white 75 or 100 watt in my reptile cages for years now. If I need anything bigger, I use indoor/outdoor flood lamps from home depot.

I used to use zoomed but they never lasted longer then 3 months where a good quality flood lamp will last near a year if it doesn't get banged around too much.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
