The difference is you can buy large flood lights and let them sit directly on the screen without the bulb touching the screen top. I also think they make a larger spot for basking. I have two because I use one in the winter time at night, and it keeps the cats off the top of the tank bc they have no room to jump up there, ha. I like them better personally.
