Another newbie ?
Okay, I have been getting such great advice from you all I thought I would ask another about feeding. I have read :study: that mealworms are not good because of impactation for baby beardies, but my baby LOVES LOVES them. I know that people do feed them to their beardies and I hear they also feed superworms.
1st ? what is the difference between mealworms and superworms besides size????
2------I was going to buy hornworms...does anyone know a good place to order from?
3-----I hear people raving about Dubias, I would love to save money and try to raise them myself also, but roaches and me do not go together in the same sentence. I truly think I would :puke: especially if one ever got out.
4-------I was going to place an order for 1000 crickets until I heard how much work it was to keep those suckers clean and smell free. :banghead:
CAN YOU TELL I AM NOT A BUG PERSON YET??????
please help me someone!!!!!!!!

Have you thought about locusts, the small hoppers are cleaner, less likely to get out and if ur worried about spiney legs just remove them, my beardie loves them more than crickets, but i guess a varied diet is best, mine eats waxworms (as a treat), mealworms, crickets and locusts.

Hey! Welcome! Phoenix worms are the way to go. They can be fed as a staple, don't need vitamin or calcium dusting because they're already super nutritious, your beardie will love them because it seems he's used to the wiggling worms. The best thing for you about these worms, carefree! All you have to do is put them somewhere cold, not the fridge! They are a little more expensive but are worth it without the hassle of feeding the bugs, cleaning up after the bugs, bugs smell bad from die offs, you don't need to dust them.

After a year and a half I'm finally taking the dubia plunge. With all the reptiles I have, I guess I'd be stupid not to.

Hey there,
The diff between supers and mealworms is that supers have a higher meat to shell ratio. They are also higher in fat content so I tend to use them as a treat. I find roaches to be better than crickets but I have alot of dragons at the moment. It cost me more a month to feed my poopers than My family right now. Keep useing the crix until your comfy with the idea of trying other things.

Let me add that superworms are only for dragons 16" and over. But... a lot of people on here (myself included) have fed very small supers to smaller dragons (although my little brat of course will not eat them since mommy can actually afford them). I got to take the bug plunge very slowly, first feeding my boyfriends dragon crickets then working my way up to no minding having my hand in a roach bin. I cannot afford PWs because my darling eats 70-90 large crickets or roaches a day. She would probably need twice as many PWs since they are so small and 1000 of those are $50 or so. It's too early in the morning to do math, but lets just say that I couldn't afford that on a college student's wages. So, what I did was buy 4000 turks from http://www.thebugpros.com. That's the best price I've seen on roaches anywhere. They are breeding, but not fast enough. So I had to go back to crickets and feed both (1 meal roaches, 1 meal crickets) so that Lilly doesn't eat through the colony before they get a chance to reproduce (I have egg sacs, but they aren't hatching yet :( ). I would love to have a dubia colony, but the thought of shelling out $100+ dollars just for the roaches is a bit sickening. Although if you are going to do that, check out the roach guy in the for sale section. Right now you get 35% more if you buy 1000. I get my hornworms from http://www.mulberryfarms.com or http://www.greatlakeshornworm.com when Mulberry is sold out (quite frequently). My darlings love them, but sometimes will refuse other food and hold out for them. Be aware that hornworms grow VERY fast and are quite expensive. Oh, and as for locusts, to the best of my knowledge those are not available in the US. If anyone has found them, let me know I might be interested in trying. Best of luck with your bugs,
Sara

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
