Hige has been visibly getting ready for a sleep. I worry he's too skinny - but there's no stopping him! So i've been readying his set up for it. I just wanted to check i've done it right!
At the moment he's 18" long and weighs between 385g and 393g depending on how full of food/poop he is, with 385g being his current 'empty' weight. He was treated for parasites not too long ago so we're okay on that front. He started eating less until he stopped altogether last week and just did not want to know - even refusing dubia roaches and wax worms! He got a bath daily this week to evacuate his bowels and make sure he was nicely hydrated. His lights are normally on a 12hr cycle of 8am till 8pm. But once he was getting visibly ready for brumnation i changed them to 10hrs of lights from 8:30am till 6:30pm. Now he’s getting properly into it he’s on a 8hrs of lights from 9am till 5pm. I also put hides into his tank at various temperature points to allow him to choose the most optimal temperature.
One in the cool end - a cat litter tray with large pieces of torn up kitchen roll and a half log. Temps are around 21c/70F during lights on and about 14c/57F at night
One on top of his basking platform, to the side with a few sheets of kitchen roll put inside. Temps are 30-32c/87-90F during the day and 25-27c/77-80 at night
And one underneath his basking platform with kitchen roll sheets to make it feel more snug. Hige was right over at the boxes checking them out! (He looks a lot thinner than he actually is in this photo). Temps are 29c/85F and have yet to measure night time temps.
He's got a water bowl in there permenantly - he likes to drink/soak in it. I stopped offering greens and livefood now he's sleeping on and off throughout the day and refusing it anyway. He has a 50w CHE on 24/7 because my house is very cold, and he now often chooses to stay in the basking end at night. He's chosen his brumnation spot under his basking platform, near the CHE and is not happy about being disturbed at all anymore!
