Hi as some of you may know my dragon is suffering from fatty liver disease caused by to many antibiotics to treat an RI.

Now the problem is aswell as treating with liver supplement i have make sure he has a full stomach everyday. Not easy when he doesnt naturally eat greens but im doing really well getting plenty in while basking so i hope eventually he will take to it himself.

The last few days since the clocks went back uk time ive noticed changes in my dragon not wanting to bask slowing down and spending more time on his cool side . Now he has either taking a turn for the worst which i dont think it is because he dived a locust i gave him so therefor i think its brummation which causes me a problem i dont know how im going to continue making sure he has plenty food in him if he decides hes going to sleep for a month or however long

Ideas please?

Hi there, sorry to hear this has happened to your beardie. So sad that the vet prescribed all those antibiotics. What prognosis did the vet give ? Anyway, if you keep offering the foods the dragon loves, and keep his temps. at normal range, he probably won't sleep anywhere near as long or consistently as he would otherwise. This way he may continue to eat every few days , which may be the only way to handle this until he decides [ hopefully ] to become more active + eating again. Hopefully he'll be with you for a good while yet .

Hi

Well the vet was really good actualy just unfortunate that the RI went on for six months and in the end Amikacin cured the RI but because he was on it for 4 weeks with weekly check ups.
My dragon still wasnt right after this, so i was asked for an internal examination to be done and this is when they seen the liver was swollen. Vet didnt think he would live long i dont think but with alot of hard work 3 months later hes still with me and looks great just dont want brummation to spoil this.

Thanks for the advice its appreciated

Hello,

You could consider giving colloidal silver or milk thistle for help with the liver.
It is very hard to keep them from going into brumation but you could let her slow down a little bit
& just shorten her days a little to let her get some extra rest. That way she could still eat & do
some basking but just a shorter day.

Hi Tracie thanks for the info its the first time my dragon has hit brummation quite unfortunate timing lol!!

But im well prepared i actualy bought milk thislte recently powder form i add a little to his fresh veg smoothie. So far ive managed ok but if he decides he wants even longer sleeps then i may start having problems, i will cross that bridge if and when it happens.

Just out of interest how long does brummation last?

Strangley enough hes been letharigc for last 2 weeks but even more so the last week but today for first time in 2 weeks hes very alert and been to and from his basking area twice already today and its only 20 to 10 am uk time so maybe he has actualy snapped out of it already is this possible?

Last 2 weeks very tired even more so this week and 2 weeks before that he maybe did slow down slightly but not much id did think it was more to do with his liver to start with but today hes completely different

Hello,

It is very possible that he wont brumate very long at all, some do while others don't.
If the liver is doing well & regenerating itself then he will definitely feel better & may choose not to brumate as long.
Maybe he wont be down anymore this season & will make a great recovery then for you!
The time change may have also messed him up a little too. How are his colors?

Hello,

Great, it sounds like he is doing pretty well, all things considered. :D
Maybe he is out of brumation for now, that would give you less to worry about!

Let me know if there are any changes.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
