Brumation

About 2-3 weeks ago I purchased a 2 year old male bearded dragon. Since I've had him, he spends about half of his day awake and doing normal beardie things, and then the other half under his hide, trying to sleep. The breeder I purchased him from said he would go down hard when he brumated. However, I get the feeling that he's partially brumating.
Another interesting fact: he hasn't had much of an appetite since I've had him either. He eats alright, but there is not nearly as much enthusiasm in him as my other two beardies.
I guess my first question is, is he partially brumating. If so, how should I do lights? In the main brumation article it said 8 hours. (I currently have it on 12 right now.)
I already give them all weekly baths so that shouldn't be an issue.
I guess that's all I'm really wondering.

hello friend, i'm actually really new to this brumation thing... my beardie phoenix is 1year 3mths and i think hes doing a partial brumation too... i've read that sometimes they will do that, and that it can always be different each year, some times it could be full sleep or off and on sleep... have you had him tested for parasites? i know when phoenix had parasites he acted funny. considering you have 2 other beardies i'm guessing you know the good uvbs from the bad so i think we can skip that part .
what phoenix has been doing is he will sleep for a few days then get up and eat and want attention, then a few days later he will stop eating and go to the cool side and sleep i mean hard sleep but only for about 4 days... i cant help you with your lights... sorry... i'm still working on mine, because like you, i'm unsure if this is brumation and with him being inconsistant like he is i still have my lights set for 12 hours... i wish i could be more help to you but heres a bump so that maybe someone else can give u a hand :mrgreen:

Mine is doing that too, less of an appetite and more sleeping.

my breeder told me to just go with the flow, if he wants to sleep okay, if he wants to be awake well thats okay too lol... i'm just moving along with him...lol... i have cut his baths down, when hes asleep he only gets 2, when hes up he gets a few and roam time so i adjust according to him... its all i know to do lol

Angie is doing it too and she's not even a yr old yet! She's probably around 8 months but she's not eating and would rather sleep most times now.

I wonder if that is what is up with my lass? She is still active and likes to be out, but her appetite has dropped and I am feeding her babyfood as I am worried she will get too skinny. I also relocated her viv so there has been a lot going on. She is about 2 years old but I have only had her a couple of weeks. Her tail has also gone light so I am not sure if she is going to start shedding soon. I bathe her often and worry about her a lot.

I would love to know for sure if she is slowing down for brumation, but it varies so much between dragons it's hard to get a definite answer.

There is another post similar to this one at this time. I have contacted a couple of mods as well as the lady who wrote the brumation article. She is very busy but should be respnding soon so keep an eye on the "I have read the brum article thread...............
