My Ziggy is having his first brumation. He is 19 months old and 23.5 inches from snout to tail tip. He has nice fat pads on his head and tail base, etc. He's been asleep five days now. I have his lights off and his enclosure mostly covered with a blanket (I left about 2 inches open on the top for fresh air). He's snuggled up on his mat and when I peek in at him, he'll open his eyes then go back to sleep.

How will I know when he's ready to wake up? Should I do anything for him during this time? How often should I check on him? Does it bother him to wake him while he's trying to brumate? When he wakes up will he be ravenous? I bought butter worms and have them stored in the wine fridge awaiting his hunger.

I'm really missing him and am having to force myself from looking at baby beardies online or at the pet store, otherwise I'll end up bringing a 2nd home. Ziggy ate well over $100 worth of worms a month (reptiworms, butter worms, hornworms and silkies) while growing though and I'm not sure I want to do that again just yet.

Hi there....It sounds like you have a BIG healthy boy. :) That's a huge dragon for sure, what are the temps. in Ziggy's tank ? My dragons sleep pretty solid for 2-3 months every winter, but the room temp. is between 62-67. It's very natural, so you can just let him sleep. He'll get himself up when he wants to, and the rule I have for my dragons is to wake them if they sleep for longer than 3 months. Your guy might sleep straight through or be up + down. It might be a few weeks or several months. But look on the bright side.....you'll save a $100 a month. :)

Norbert slept for around 2 months straight. I didn't wake her up or even peek at her really. She was hidden in her rock so I couldn't see her. I did do a reptifogger every morning for 10-20 minutes to make sure she didn't get dehydrated. (vet's orders)

His temperature in the morning is around 65 and by late afternoon it's around 68 in the enclosure with the lights off and covered with the blanket.

We live in Florida though so those inside temperatures won't last. We have lots of warm mixed in with cold fronts in the winter here.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
