Brumation Maybe?

Hi Everyone,
My 8 month old is showing all signs of brumation for the last 2 wks. No surprise, the weather temps dropped from 90 to 65 degrees 2 wks ago even though his tank temps, UVB & schedule has remained the same. My worry is I read several articles that stated I shouldn't allow a beardie under 1 year old to brumate. He's solid & filling out, 23in 465g. Any advice?

Hi there, it is getting to be that time or some dragons and your boy is monster size already and will be in no danger at all. Once a theory gets started it's hard to stop, and the " 1 year old minimum " for brumation is well meaning but is not correct. You def. wouldn't want a sickly or slow grower to brumate but for others it's fine. Keep in mind too that some dragons will just go through a slow down and not an all out brumation. They may sleep for a few days or weeks + then go back to normal activity or slightly lower activity levels.

Thank you so much for your advice! He has 2 hide boxes to choose from; guess I'll leave it up to him...though I will miss him terribly if he decides to check out for awhile.

My Nibbles is about 8 months old and she has been sleeping/laying in her hide for the past few days. If I take her out and put her under her heat lamp she’s perfectly alert and happy but within 20 minutes she crawls back into her hide. Also when I take her out she acts the exact same as she usually does, alert and sassy :roll: but she also has basically only been eating her greens. I put fresh kale on her dish every morning but the past few days she hasn’t touched it except for when I put it in front of her face. If anyone could help that would be great!

I have always wondered about kale --- so since I am skeptical about I just dont feed it - I heard it binds calcium

so she had been sleeping in the half log thing, and this morning I put a dish of water by it and then I put her under the heat lamp and then instead of going to the log she went to the back right corner. You can see her tail sticking out there :lol:

So lets go over the lighting in the tank --- what are you using for a UVB brand and bulb please--- what are the basking temps and how are you taking them? infrared heat gun stick ons or digital probe?

I use the Zilla Premium Reflector Dome with the Zoo Med 75w Repti Basking lamp. For UVB I forget what, but I know it is Zoo Med.
