Broken Leg!? Please Help!

Hello! I have always visited this site for any relatable situations, but I am so scattered and stressed that i thought i should make my own account and get answers ASAP.

I had to move my beardies terrarium because of issues with the other animals and have yet to hang the lights. I set them on the edge of the cage, which has worked every other time with no issues. this time, unfortunately, it fell in top of my baby. I got it off of her as soon as I could, but now her left arm is limp and soft. I am freaking out and I do not have any money at all to visit a specialist or a vet at all. I told my mom and she said she should be okay, but she also said that about my last bearide (different story) so i dont exactly find comfort in her words and reassurance.

She still run and acts normal. She just doesnt use that left arm, though when she climbs, she attempts to use it. I am terrified of losing her and would be absolutely devastated if I lost her.

Anyone know what I could do for her? Again, I do not have any money to spend, which angers me. If you guys think it is life threatening, then i will bug and bother my mom to take her to a specialist, which around here, costs almost 1,000 dollars just for a visit (yes i looked it up).

I will keep you updated if anything changes, but some comforting and trusting reassurance would be helpful.

Hi Cattlyn, sorry to hear about this accident. The leg will either be sprained , bruised or broken. X-ray is the surest way to confirm.....are you positive on what your exotic vet would charge ? Yu might call them + tell them your situation and maybe get a ballpark figure.

But IF she does not seem to be in too much pain and the leg doesn't swell then it may not be broken. Will she eat anything ? Can you post a video of her moving around ? If not, maybe some pics of her ? Don't handle her for a while, esp. if she's wiggly. Hopefully she's going to end up being O.K

Hello,

Too bad that happened, poor girl.
I would definitely double check on the cost, just in case.
Watch for swelling on it, or discoloration. Hopefully it is just bruised & not broken.
Try to lower her basking area some to help limit her activity so she doesn't hurt it more.
Is her beard dark or normal colored?
Let us know how she is doing.

So I did take a video of her eating this morning. And I woke up all throughout the night to check up on her. She doesnt seem to be in that much pain. She still moves around as much as she did before she was hurt and when i fed her this morning, she still chased her crickets around as she normally did. I will definitely post the video very soon, as well as pictures.

She is starting to move it a bit more than previously, but she does seem to be stressing out, as she is showing dark lines under her belly and chin. But its not too bad.

Her leg seemed a little swollen last night, but doesnt seem swollen anymore.

Hopefully it is just a soft tissue injury. However, a broken limb is pretty much an vet visit. Glad to hear the limb isn't as swollen. Doesn't sound like you'll have to worry about compartment syndrome, which could cause amputation.
Keep a good eye on it...if a vet visit is needed see if the vet will take payments, or use a credit card.

Another Update on Aela:

Throughout the day, she seemed to be getting a lot better. Her arm is no longer limp or soft. She ate a lot of crickets for dinner and i coated them with calcium powder.. and as a snack, I will be feeding her kale :D . I will continue to keep a close eye on her, just in case. She is acting a bit more energetic, running up and down her basking log and wanting to get out of her tank, which she normally doesnt do.

Thank you everyone for your concern and advice! it really helped me stress less and understand more about what she could be going through.

This happened to one of my beardies before. He jumped off his log and hit his right hind leg on another decor piece. His leg was limp and soft as well. I took him to a vet. They said he had bruised his tissue so he was better the next day. Just don't handle him for another day or two, just to be sure. Hope your little girl is okay! :D

Hello,

Wow, that is great news to hear she is doing so much better so quickly. I guess she just had some soft tissue bruising, hopefully! So she is walking & running on it normally today?
I am happy that it wasn't more serious of an injury.
Keep us posted on her & I hope there wont be any other signs of injury on her arm.

Great, I'm so glad it turned out O.K. :) They can hurt their leg at times + bounce right back. Sometimes after a day or two, sometimes a week or two.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
