Bringing a beardie to school...

For homecoming week, I am wanting to dress up as daenerys targaryen from Game of Thrones and have my beardie come dressed as a dragon. I have a few questions:

1. I would have him out of his tank for about 8 hours. Is that okay? I can also take him outside for 30 minutes during lunch.

2. Because I would not have a heat lamp, would heat packs and a hot water bottle be okay?

3. Again, without a heat lamp I'm afraid he wouldn't be able to digest any food, so is it okay if I don't feed him in the morning? Or would heat packs allow digestion?

I'm not worried about him being stressed, he loves people and my school is very quiet. Thanks guys!

He could be out of his tank for the day and be OK (I've done this while traveling) but I'd have some towels and hand warmers or reptile heat packs available if he seems to get too cold. My main concern would be to bring him into a different environment like that. It sounds like a fun idea but may wind up being stressful to him. If you go ahead with this, I'd be sure to bring a duffel bag or something similar lined with towels or a blanket so he can have some hide time if he needs it.

Thank you for replying. Do you think I should feed him that morning? I don't care if he poops I just don't want him to not be able to digest it because there will be no heat lamp.

How old is he? If he's an adult then he would be OK without food for a while but under a year old he would need food (and proper digestion time). You could provide him with his meal after school and give him a couple of hours under his lights in the evening.

He's about three months. I was planning on feeding him as soon as I got home so that's good to hear. Just not in the morning.

3 months is still pretty young. He should be getting at least 2-3 feedings a day at that age. I would also be more concerned with stress on a young one like that. I would advise against bringing him along for now.

Really? I bring him to the barn where I board my horses all the time and he seems to love all the attention and energy. How long is a three month old typically? He might be a little older...

Their sizes vary quite a bit as they tend to grow at different rates. A 3 month old would still be pretty small in most cases. Fit in your hand most likely. If he is OK with travel in your experience, it may be OK. It's up to you and I'll admit that every dragon is different. If you do bring him though I do suggest bringing some kind of hide as I described earlier and you can feed him in the evening as long as he gets a couple of hours under heat and UVB.

He's a foot and a half, and growing quickly :D If I do, I will definitely take your advice. Thank you for all your help!

Hi I was just thinking about you bringing your Beardie to school and what if you could set up a small tank in a science teachers classroom. So when you can't have him with you he can be in a tank or tub with a heat lamp. It's just an idea that I came up with. Hope it helps and that's a really cool costume idea! :D

I would but the science teachers at my school are afraid of anything with scales that moves. Good idea though

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
