New beardie owner here, I've had mine 3.5 weeks. He's about 6 inches long. Recently I've noticed his chin getting puffy whenever he breathes, and that he's gaping more than usual. He's shedding the top of his head right now - not sure if that could be a factor. The past two nights he was still gaping and I'd hear a popping noise when he does too. His left eye is also closed a lot these past 2 days, however I don't see anything in either of his eyes.
I currently have a 40 gallon tank with an Exo Terra 100W bulb for basking spot and Zoo Med ReptiSun 10.0 Compact Fluorescent Lamp for the UVB, and a night time heat bulb. I only have a stick on dial thermometer/hydrometer right now, 100F and 35% humidity. He doesn't go to the cool side of the tank but just crawls onto a lower branch to cool off I think.
I read compact bulbs could cause eye problems? So I ordered a ReptiSun 10.0 tube light and a digital thermometer for more accurate temperatures.
His breathing seems very on and off. One day he would appear to be breathing fine, and the next day he has me worried gaping and making popping noises. Other than the breathing and eye being closed, he's eating and popping well. Should I take him to the vet?
