Im absolutely gutted, i had been treating him with asthma meds in nebuliser and they did help but never cured anything and because he was reasonbly healthy otherwise i had planned to take him to the vets quite some distance away next week. Until last tuesday night (1am) i woke up to him scraping his tank frantically and he choked and coughed some food up and died in my hands but over the space of 10-15 minutes i had managed to revive him by using a straw and blowing in his mouth and the next morning he was ok ansd was basking away. That day i drove 100miles and got him to the vet and he had been doing well in there care they phoned me yesterday morning saying there was an improvement using steroids to help his breathing until later thats afternoon he took another turn over a week later and in the vets care they revived him but he never fully came back round. The vet had been very positive of a good outcome because he was healthy looking and hadnt lost much weight. Ive to phone tomorrow to decide if i still want his death investigated. Im just gutted as he got a great report 3 months ago and through out it all he never showed signs of stress until that one night yes he had struggled before but never over prolonged periods of time and he never stopped eating or basking. Poor wee guy find it hard looking at his tank

I understand how you feel. This is a real bummer. I was hoping he would bounce back and have many good years ahead of him =/

Thanks its just so strange if you didnt know you would never have guessed and the vet even said to me that its clear he is well cared for i really thought id have him home this week.

I will update you if i decide to go further and find out i feel i owe it to him

Im thinking it sounds very similar to Nicky that died also very similar symtoms

Did you have a blood test done? The major indicator of neuroendocrine gastrinoma is a large spike in blood glucose levels. My Cooper died from the same thing two years ago this thursday. That is what Nicky died from.

Yes bloods were done and they came back great even took bloods a second time amd sent to the university for deeper investigative works and nothing bad came back. Yeah maybe i can rule that out then i think he was hiding illness from me for a while. I think i will ask for them to investigate the cause as it will not rest with me until i know

He had gout but that was being treated. He slowly lost weight over the course of about 6 months (about 50g) but was otherwise in great health. Happy and active until the day before he died when he lost his color, went lethargic, and had a black beard. Rushed to the vet and did a blood test that showed the spike in glucose but he died the next day. It was very sudden.

Such a shame :( its more frustrating in these circumstances as there are no pre symptoms to know if you can do anything my dragon lost 50g over last 3 months but vet didnt feel that it was yet a massive concern as he was 24 inches long and 800g in weight. Aparts from the breathing episodes he seemed very healthy and like yours the day he took a turn he lost his colour very pale looking and went black and this was the first instance of me losing him

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
