Breathed up some water??

Hey Everyone!

The other day, I was giving my bearded dragon, Pixie, a bath. She is 5 months old and whenever I give her a bath I will massage/pet her back and head. She really enjoys it and closes her eyes. For the first time I noticed she laid her head down while enjoying her head massage. I figured that she was just breathing through her nose since some of her mouth was submerged. However, I saw that her nostrils were submerged as well! She was probably like that for 20-30 seconds at the most!

I read all of these warnings of beardies drowning and it worried me. I mean, I was not holding her head down. At any moment she could have moved up for air. When I stopped petting her she kind of just looked at me like "Why did you stop" lol but is it possible that she inhaled a bit of water? If so, would the water filter out of her lungs on its own? Or is it going to cause some bronchitis thing?

Edit: I also wanted to add that she acts the same as she always does. Perky and aware and shows really no signs of injury.
Help Dx

Sometimes they seem to like to put their heads low in the water. Sometimes they even take a drink. If she took in a bit of water you may want to lay her with her head slightly down but if she's acting normal she's probably OK. Keep an eye out for excess mucous around her mouth and nose and for lethargic behavior which may indicate a respiratory infection. Otherwise she shouldn't have a problem.

Hello,

As Cooper suggested, she should be fine but definitely watch for any signs of breathing distress, etc. If she hasn't coughed yet or had any trouble breathing she will be perfectly ok. :D
A lot of them will submerge their entire heads during baths.
You could take precautions & keep her tank a little extra warm overnight, around 80 to boost her immune system.

I just set Swordtail's timer for his bath and paused it so I could actually fill his soaking bowl up and he crawled over my phone and canceled the timer 🤣
Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
