Breaking the Superworm Addiction

Hey everyone, I've got a 7 month beardie who I believe is addicted to dem superworms...I made the mistake of feeding only supers for about 2 weeks, now he pretty much eats nothing else but a few greens here and there and 1-3 roaches per day. I'm wondering if any of you have experience with this, and what advice you can give. Feed nothing but veggies? Feed roaches too? Any other feeder work well to break the habit? He is 16" so not a baby anymore, but still not an adult so I don't know if I should show him too much tough love. His temps are fine, his colors are bright, he seems the same and content, and poops look good and formed, though not as frequent due to less food. I was told it may be parasites, but highly doubt it (I'm still going to get a fecal done next time he poops). Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, keep at those greens and roaches! You are more than okay to withhold supers if you're offering other things instead. He will eat if he's hungry, they can be very stubborn sometimes. He can still have the occasional superworm as a treat, of course, but he will be much healthier and better off with roaches and greens. Have you tried any other live feeder? Silkworms are excellent ones to try daily, and you could also do some occasional hornworms (my guy goes mental for them!), and wax- and butterworms make really good occasional treats as well. Variety is the key to a healthy diet!

Thanks for the feedback. I usually have a mix of feeders, from roaches and crickets to bsf larvae and now superworms. Never tried silkworms, was just looking for a source today. But of course 5 minutes after I posted this my boy jumped down and started munching some okra and squash...it's been a week or so since he's done that, so I'm happy. Once the bsfl I ordered comes in, it'll make a tempting salad for him and we should be good.
