Bowser and Willows new styrofoam viv.

This is how it all started. we decided we needed to make our kids a new and improved house.

Then we grouted

And then I started to paint.

And they both seem to love it.

No we don't love our babies at all lol. They are so spoiled rotten.And can you spot one of our other family members enjoying his bed.

Where did you get the Styrofoam?

Thank you, No my husband built it and I stained it. We got the Styrofoam at home depot. We had to put more vents in the side because it holds heat so well that it overheated real quick. He made it so that we can shut the vents after shutting off the lights. It still stays warm all night at about 75 for them. Right now they are taking turns because they are not used to it and love the first one he made them better lol. So the babies are in it tonight

I didnt even notice the vents. Are they just standard floor/door vents?

What was the over all cost for the construction of it? Just curious, because we have been discussing building a Viv for ours, but this just seems soo cool! I could easily get my hands on an old wall unit type cabinet!

To tell you the truth I am not sure what the final brake down was because we had allot of the stuff around. The wood was I am sure the most expensive part and the lights. But I know the Styrofoam was only 20.00 for a 4x8 sheet. It took allot of time because my husband is wanting to maybe build them and sell them so he did allot of detail work on the wood. And I love to paint but I was not happy with my job so i kept doing it OVER and OVER lol. And the vents on the sides we used are just ceiling vents. Not floor because they were to thick and the ceiling ones were perfect. But this thing is huge its 4 foot wide 3 1/2 foot tall and 2 1/2 deep. He put handles on the side so it was not as hard to lift ether. Rhiannon

We used mortar not grout. We are flooring installers and know how bad grout cracks. In the UK they used mortar. So we got online and found flexbond crack prevention mortar at home depot and so far so good. The first little one we did with grout kept cracking over and over. Hope this helps, Rhiannon.

OK ty for ie quick reply I put a post an what we are doing now I'm using small flagstone so he can bask on we used silicone for fish tanks to keep it together how long should I it to put it in there cuz of the fumes

It should say how long to wait on the tube. But if not, then I wait tell there is no more smell to it. Or at least a week. Rhiannon

Looks awesome, what kind of heat light are you using?

The one is a Magaray uvb heat. And the other is just a normal 75 watt. But we are still playing with it. Because it is the first one we built. My husband put a fan on the one side with the vent to pull air out when it gets to warm. But it stays very warm in it.
