Bonding time after Beardie is asleep?

I've been reading how a lot of people take their beardie out after it's been asleep for awhile and hold them. Does it really help with bonding, or is he just asleep and I'm holding him, lol? My little guy was all for being held the first few weeks I had him, but now he's all squirmy when I pick him up. He doesn't act mad, just doesn't want to be held at all.

If I try it, how long should I wait after I turn his lights off to get him out?

One other thing - I've noticed he NEVER goes in his hide. He basks a lot of the day or goes up on the highest spot to sit under his UVB. Is that normal?

HA! I had so much trouble getting Tiki OUT of her hide, I had to turn the damn log upside-down so she'd get her UVB! I flip it back for bedtime.

As far as bonding, I can only speak from my experience. Yes yes, I know she's asleep, but I take her out anyway - I'm selfish with her and she's adorable when she's sleepy. I'll sit her on my lap or my shoulder, and she'll snuggle her little butt down and get as close as possible and sleep - I love it beyond words. My husband and I rescued her about two months ago, and we always cuddle her when she's sleepy - even after just two months with us, she's an INSANELY snuggly dragon. Hope that helps!

by the time i get home at night, its about an hour and a half from lights out (i have everyone on timers) so i get my little guy out for half and hour, then i usually get my fat man do beardie out. by that time hes sleepy and will snuggled down with me then go to sleep. personally i would rather them fall asleep cuddled up with me then to pull them out of their bed after they fall asleep.

as for the hide, none of mine use theres unless they sleep or sit on top of them. lol

sleepy baby photos...sorry i love sleeping baby pics. haha

Thanks for the info and the stories. I think I’m going to have to try it when he starts looking sleepy during the week when I can’t get him out much during the day. Those pics are awesome (Riley must have been more tired than Harley lol)!! I love sleepy beardie pics too. If that hasn’t been a ‘photo competition theme’ then it should be. I’ve only been here a couple months so I’m not sure what’s been done in the past.

It is funny how they are night owls. Henry is up by 6:30 even though the lights are not on and is still awake at9. My other lizards are l konked out by 7. I like to hold Henry until he falls asleep.

Love, love, love the sleepy pics!!! :D

I think they know they're being snuggled, even when they're sleeping. I think they get used to us - the feel of us, the smell of us, etc. I know sometimes when I think Grendel is conked out, I'll look down, and her eyes are open, and she's just sort of chilling. Even in the evenings. 8)

I do have a question, now that the light issue has been brought up ... I have her lights set to be on from 7am to 9pm, but she seems to wake up earlier than that and fall asleep earlier. Should I change her lights, or just leave her with the same schedule? She's had this same timing schedule as long as I've had her, and her mood is always good, and she's very healthy, but I want to make sure I'm doing what's best for her. So, if anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'm listening. :)

haha thanks guys! sorry about the diabetes emily! lol

as for the lighting, i have always had my babies on a 12/12 schedule. they come on at 9am and go off at 9pm. my beardies sometimes wake up before the lights come on, but its never been a concern. then my fat man do beardied wakes up when his lights come on, and if i wake him up any earlier he gets upset. lol. if you have had your beardie on that schedule for his whole life, then keep it like that. you can try a 12/12 schedule and see if its any better, but hes used to what he has.

my baby beardie is finally calming down. the past 3 nights he has fallen asleep on my belly in my hand. such a sign of trust! lol

Yes for sure cuddle your beardie when he's sleepy or just after he's fallen asleep if he's too rambunctious lol. our boys have gotten used to falling asleep with us every night while we watch tv. if we don't take Zod out he'll run over to the end of his tank closest to us and stare haha. Babies can be crazy explorers but eventually your little one will settle down and sit with you. Bedtime cuddles are a great way to get him started on that track lol.

Haha and those photos are SO cute :D I gotta share a few hee hee

Love the name Zod! And the picture with the bow on his head is fantastic.

I can't wait to see the menorah picture!!

My family celebrates both, so now I have some great ideas for the holidays this year ... Grendel thanks you both! Or not ... :?

I love the one of your BF and beardie. My husband won't handle any of my reptiles but he is coming around and will let them st on him.

Pretty funny herpgirl.....my husband likes the beardies, but is NOT fond of the Savannah, I brought it home on the pretext of "watching" it for a while, my son brought it out the first morning and he went straight to hubby and fell asleep on his arm for an hour. Broke hubby down a bit, but evidently not enough. Keeps wanting to know when it's going home. Yeah right....when is that kitten he just brought home with him.....going home?

my favorite time of day is when Archer gets sleepy. he hops off his basking log and glass dances to get my attention. as soon as i pick him up he climbs on my chest and falls asleep. i love the snuggle time so much! i've started working evenings so i get home just before his lights out. i rush home and pick him up. and then i acknowledge my boyfriend lol. beardie first!

i love our sleepy snuggle time, especially since i'm a night owl, so i get maximum snuggle time :D

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
Mirage entered brumation yesterday, I'm gonna miss hanging out with my little guy.
