body to tail ratio?

We have a rescued beardie that had his tail bitten off by a larger beardie, before we got him. He was also malnourished and had no UVB while growing up. When we got him last fall his body (no tail) was well under 5" now he measures just under 8" . Yippee! He is growing!!!! I was curious what his approximate length with tail would have been at this point. Is there a guide anywhere that shows approximate body to tail length? Anyone with a 8" beardie want to measure the tail to give me a guess?

Just from looking at our guy, it looks like it's about half and half.

I'm gonna go with half and half as well.

Measuring from his nose tip to the back of his legs, my guy is 7" long. He is missing his tail tip, but even with the nub, his tail is just about 6.5-6.75".

Yeah the tail usually doubles the size of the body so 50/50 ish.

Another question is why do they have such huge tails?

A beardie's tail is an inch longer than their body. If you have a beardie with a body of 8" long, that means the tail would be 9" long giving you a total of 17". I've constantly measured my beardies throughout their growth like this out of curiosity, and that is how their measurements always came out.

Huge as in long or as in thick? Not sure about thick, but I know long because it's a way to help them balance when they climb. Have you ever held a beardie and they flail their tail about wildly? It's because they feel unbalanced with how you're holding them and their tail helps with that.
