Bloody stool after feeding dubia roaches?

Hi guys,

We have two beardies, a baby and one female of unknown age. I am waiting for a local vet that sees reptiles to open so I can call them for advice but thought I'd check here as well. Both have had bloody stool in the past 24hrs after I fed dubia roaches. The blood isn't IN the stool but after the stool, like a small thin trail of blood after the urates come out. The poops look to have mucous in them but are well digested, no roach parts visible. The baby had her second poop with blood in it this morning, it was less blood, just a very small spot in the end of the urates. They ate the dubia for the past few days without issue. I also just changed lights to halogen and flooring surface from newspaper for the baby and carpet for the oldest to non-stick shelf liner for both.

Oswin is a baby, we just got her this past week. Not sure of her exact age but she is about 6-7" long. She is in a 29gal low tank with a 50 watt halogen and a coiled 10.0 UVB (I know, I know. I have the reptisun 10.0 tube and an under the counter fixture, I just can't figure out how to hang it in her tank!) I am having some issues with getting her tank hot enough right now. It gets up to around 95 degrees F, in the basking spot, measured with a probe thermometer. I am unclear from my research if this is hot enough for a baby.

Pepper is older beardie. She was a rescue and we are unsure of her age. She is at least 18 months old, but could be much older. We believe she had metabolic bone disease at some point. She's grown since we adopted her (one year ago) but not nearly as much as she should have grown. She is in an exo-terra wide, low, large tank, 36" long, 18" deep, 12" tall. She is under a reptisun 10.0 in a reflector hood and a 50 watt halogen. No cool side light as she is near a window and enjoys a LOT of sunlight. Her basking spot stays between 90-95 degrees, she doesn't like it much hotter than that. She will hide and gape if it gets closer to 100 degrees in her hot side.

Neither beardie is big on eating salad. Though I offer one every day, usually dandelion or mustard greens, green beans, snap peas, sweet potato and a tiny bit of some kind of beardie safe fruit. Pepper will rarely eat a few bites. Oswin has yet to realize that greens are food too.

My questions, do you think it's the dubia doing this? I read that they have less chitin so I thought they were easier to digest. I am feeding them both very small dubia because Pepper is a lazy chewer and Oswin is so small. I don't think they are impacted because they are both moving around quite well. Could the new light be a problem? What is the best basking light? Is there anything I should change immediately to help with this issue? Also, is there any surefire way to get them to love salad? Lastly, are dragons supposed to be regularly dewormed? I plan on getting fecal screens from the vet and discussing deworming, etc.

Thank you guys. Sorry so long :)

well....dubia roaches arnt very good for baby bearded dragons...you should stick to crickets! if your bigger beardie is still having problems let me know...i think it might just be like a cut in her.......did pepper eat any carrots that were slightly big? or has the roaches been big like bigger then her head?

Actually dubias are just fine for young bearded...just make sure you are feeding the very small ones...no larger than the space between its eyes. Dubia are much more nutritious than crickets and are an excellent feeder.

As for the bloody stool I will let others who are more knowledgeable about this answer...you may want to post full setup details...lights (type and brand), size, temps, etc to get the best help...good luck!

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
