My girl stella just got done going through 2 cycles of albon w/panacur peppered in. I soaked her daily since the antibiotics can dehydrate her. She has been cutting back on her crickets lateley, and the other day only ate one! Thats the day I skipped her bath (wish I hadnt but she had been off meds for 3 days) Yesterday she spent all day hiding. When I got home I gave her a bath and she had blood in her urates :( After that, is when I noticed her fat pads were getting smaller and squishy. I fear kidney damage.

I rushed to the pet store and bought super worms and wax worms. They may not be the most healthy of staple, but she ate ALOT. That was surprising to me...

When I awoke today I gave her 1 cc of water (boy was she upset I disturbed her beauty sleep) and some soy yogurt.

I should get acidopholiz today or tomorrow. What should I do in the mean time? Keep giving her syringes of water? maybe I should be get some electrolytes? how much should i give her daily to prevent dehydration?

I say yes to try the acidolphiz as I've heard good things about it and used it for Redrock when she had pinworms. I ordered acidolphiz (I'm sure that's spelled wrong) once. I had to order it from an online petstore, I'm not sure which one anymore. I couldn't find it or anything else that people suggest for probiotics for reptiles. I suggest you pm drache613 (that's Tracie's screen name) she will have some good ideas. Diamc also will have some good ideas for you.

Hello,

Wow 2 cycles of Albon mixed with Panacur is overload. The Panacur really only needs to be given once per week, for 2-3 treatments, max. The cycles, how long did they last for?
I would go for 2-4mls of oral fluids daily right now, to help get her rehydrated. Until you get the acidophiliz, you can use a mix of water to pedialyte to help get her electrolytes back to normal.
Were her urates hard or soft?
You could even mix some canned pumpkin or sugar free applesauce in with some water or pedialyte to help her out if she might be a little constipated also.

Thanks for the reply! The albon was given 1x day for 5 days, 2 days off then again for 5 days. The panacure was given 1x week for 4 weeks (1 more dose to go)

Her urates were formed but flexible (not crumbly). Her poop is becoming more formed too (and smaller?) She seems to be getter slooowly. Today Stella ate 8 super worms and 20 waxworms. I hope she keeps it up :)

Hello,

I am happy to hear that your girl is doing better. Stella is such a cute name.
At least she ate 8 superworms that is some improvement. If her stools are firming up then, her system sounds like it is starting to clean out & normalize.
The medication round sounds ok then, I am relieved to hear the regime. Make sure she is getting plenty of water, too right now.

Keep us posted on her.

I got the acidopholiz Thursday. I've been giving her about .5 CCs daily along with daily soaks and syringe fed water. Her poo looks good. Urates are getting and brown tint again though. And the worse part yet, she has went off her food. She doesn't eat greens or worms now. Stella is also starting to turn dingy again with stress marks.

I took a fecal to the vet Friday as try closed to the public. The vet tech who took my sample was quote rude and said the vet may get back to me the middle of next week because they are closed for the weekend. I hope they don't wait til mid next week to do the float. I'm starting to think a beardie isn't for me, this my 2nd one :(

Wish us luck

Well I've been giving Stella her acidopholiz and her appetite has impoved SOME but now we have a separate issue. She was basking today and I noticed she has some teeth missing :( I would imagine it is due to the syringe. I wonder if she hasn't been eating because of the pain associated with losing her teeth? I'm scared to continue using the syringe now. How can I give her meds and fluids?

How long before her gums will heal?

Hello,

How is she doing? She has some teeth missing? Have you ever noticed that before?
Does she like the acidophiliz then? Continue giving that to her for now, it should help her out.
You could also use a plastic dropper to just drip the meds onto her nose & she should maybe lick that off, hopefully. You can usually get them dropped trained relatively easily.

Let us know how she is doing.

I hope poor Stella feels better soon. Were the teeth on the same side that the syringe goes in? Our girl Salsa hates the syringe and sometimes tries to chew it.

How are you getting her to take the acidophiliz?

She doesn't usually lick stuff off her nose but I can TRY again. The missing teeth are right where I place the syringe. Thats how she gets the acidopholiz (small plastic syinge from the vet) she chews the heck out of it once it's in between her teeth. I try to hurry but then again try to be careful she doesn't choke. Gosh I feel bad for my baby girl. How long should it take for her gums to heal? Hopefully not oo long, I wonder if it causes pain and that's part of the reason she cut back on eating

Is there another method I can try when syringing? Administer from the very front or her mouth? The very back? Any tips are appreciated

Well good news! The vet said Stella is negative for coccidia!! Woo hoo! But I do have a question. She has been sleeping lots lately, could she be going into brumation? She is about 7 mos old now. I didnt allow her to brumate with parasites. Maybe now I can?

I'm glad she is negative. Our little girl was still positive a few weeks ago. I'm hoping it is gone now, but she is also having trouble pooping. One thing our vet showed us to do is to gently pully down on her beard to cause her lips to part a bit and gently rub the syringe against her teeth without shoving it inside. It requires a bit of patience, but perhaps it would be easier on her teeth. I hope stella feels better soon.

Hello,

WEll, that is great news Stella is negative for Coccidia. I hope she is feeling better. Her gums should heal up soon so if you can get her dropper trained, that would definitely help her gums out. Keep trying with the dropper.
At 7 months, it is "possible" that she could be going into brumation. I am not sure I would let her go fully into brumation, but perhaps a semi or partial brumation would be ok. You should monitor her for any sudden weight loss, & watch her stools too. If she is slowing down, she might not fully brumate though at her age.
If you want to let her slow down a little that is fine, but the most important thing since she has had coccidia recently is to monitor her weight.

I talked with her breeder. She also says she is to young to brumate but instead may be "slowing down". I plan on keeping her lights on 12 hour cycle. Her Viv has a basking rock (110 degrees) and a log to sleep under at the dark/cool side. She continues to eat some worms so I'll continue to offer them daily as well as soaks. She didnt respond to the dropper on the nose but I will continue trying.

I also plan on tracking her weight. Thanks so much Tracie! You have been so helpful. Thanks to everyone. Y'all are the best

She won't need anything by syringe now since her treatment is done, whatever you need to give her should be done by dripping on her nose or pulling the lip back as the other poster mentioned. She now associates the syringe with an unpleasnt experience and possibly pain. As far as her eating....if it's superworms she wants, go with them for now. To possibly get her to eat some turnip, collard, mustard greens, put a small shallow bowl in and add some slightly disabled but still wiggling superworms to the greens, partly buried. When she goes for the worms, she will get salad along with. Don't be so worried if she does not eat every day....she just went through an ordeal, and she still has a surprisingly good appetite. Make sure the greens are wet when you feed them, this will give her extra moisture. For drinking, get a spray bottle and gently spray the top of her nose....it may take a few seconds, but she should start drinking. I have done this with hundreds, and all of mine drink that way.

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
