Black soldier fly recently bought are actually pupa!

Hello, this is my first time posting on this forum and I'm eager to get advice on my first bearded dragon. So, as the title suggests I have a problem with the worms I recently bought... because they weren't actually worms. Turns out they're on the final stage in their life cycle in becoming black soldier flys which is alarming

My beardo is still young, but I'm not sure her exact age because it was a last minute adoption. If I allow the pupa to hatch can my dragon eat the escaping flys? Also would the flys be able to get out of the cage?

Hey there! When the worms are dark like that, they're actually filled with the most calcium, so that's a great time to feed them to your little beardie! As for when they turn into flies, my little one loved chasing them around, but they're kind of a pain because they hover around the lights where your beardie can't reach them. She looks pretty small still, but I think the flies would be okay for her to eat since they aren't very big. I'd try to save yourself some hassel though and feed them before they turn and just save a few for chasing! When they start turning, it gets way overwhelming and you'll have to throw a good majority of them out, which is a waste of money. Has she been eating them as they are?

And no she hasn't really touched or noticed them at all. She won't eat inanimate insects at all. I can't hand feed her either because she's very skiddish when taken out of her home. That's also another problem I'm having is having her calm down when being held so I don't have to worry about her running off and hiding somewhere in my room.

Try dropping a few right near her....if they don't move at all, get a long skinny stick [ if she runs from your hand ] to jiggle them and she will figure out that this is food.
