Yesterday my lights went out for a few minutes and it made me think what if this hppened for longer like hours or days! What would you do to keep them warm would you still feed them even though they have no lights to help them digest it? And I don't leave crickets in their vivarium at night so how could you get them out if it was dark? Total hypothetical but just wondered.
Thanks.

LUckily ifour power goes out, our heat stays ON! So it wont drop below 70 or so (I'd probably turn it up to 80 though to keep the bd's warm)

Has anyone posted a "dragon emergency care kit"

Now thinking about it..I want to get on together..we live in NY and the power goes out ATLEAST once or twice every winter!

I have been thinking about this since I just got a little one. When I had an iguana (that wasn't too big) the power went out for about 5 days so I just kept him under my shirt for heat and didn't feed him. He would cling to my shirt with his back against my chest. I would sleep in a sleeping bag near the fireplace and keep him under my shirt next to me when sleeping too. People who don't keep reptiles think I'm weird for this but it worked and he was just fine when the power came back on and I started feeding him again.

I would definitely just keep Mango under my shirt during the day. That's his favorite place to be anyway so he'd be a happy lizard. At night I would fill his viv with towels and/or blankets to keep him away from the cold tile. I do this every night anyway but I would probably add more layers if it were really cold. I would also boil water on the grill to put in a hot water bottle for extra heat. The room where he sleeps is also the warmest in the house so it would likely cool off the slowest.

I've heard of some people using those chemical hand warmers when desperate but I've never tried them. I'd like to pick up a few just in case though.

would you still feed them even though they have no lights to help them digest it?

If it were just for a day I would probably say, no, however, beyond that I would probably stick with baby food, greens and soft bodied worms instead of the harder to digest foods. I would definitely bathe with water warmed on the grill to keep him hydrated and induce pooping though.

And I don't leave crickets in their vivarium at night so how could you get them out if it was dark?

Flashlight.

Has anyone posted a "dragon emergency care kit"

If you do a search there are several threads on emergency kits. I've been slowly but surely putting one together along with a first aid kit. Here are some of the suggested items.

Emergency Kit
hot water bottle
hand warmers
blankets and towels
canned food (pumpkin, veggies etc.)
canned or live feeders
non-electric can opener
harness
jugs of water
zip-loc bags
paper towels
Mercury Vapor Bulb & fixture (in case of evacuation)
pet photo and pre-made "Lost Pet" type sign that you can add specific details to and photocopy quickly once you're able
list of important phone numbers
cash

First Aid Kit
betadine
antibiotic cream
mineral oil
Q-tips
tweezers
scissors
paper tape
bandages & gauze
adhesive
styptic powder or corn starch
magnifying glass
flashlight (and extra batteries)
matches
nail clippers
nail file
disposable gloves
saline
baby food
eye dropper
syringes (with & without needle)
aloe vera
safe disinfectant that you don't have to rinse away with water (Nolvasan etc.)
alcohol wipes
pocket knife
tongue depressors or popsicle sticks (for splints)
Pedialyte
baby food
temp gun

Store everything inside of smaller plastic bins inside of a larger Rubbermaid bin. The smaller bins can be removed and the larger bin used for transport, bathing, feeding etc. while still keeping everything contained.

And the following, not so much for a natural disaster type situation but I'm adding it to my first aid kit anyway.

Acidophiliz
Liquid Calcium Glubionate
Liquid Vitamin B Complex
Reptaid
Repta-Aid
Terramycin
Digital scale

Mirage came out of brumation on April 26. He was doing great. On May 2 he started acting funny. We just redid his tank, and he keeps going into one of his hides. He just lays there. He shows no intrest in food. HELP!
is tape safe for fixing something in my leopard geckos hide?
Day 3 of brumation. It's a struggle. I really miss my little guy. 😔
