Black beardie

Hi. I’m new to this.. well my beardie who is about 3months old jumped off me. A week later he started turning black, but he’s also growing so I got him a 55 gallon tank. I don’t know if it’s the lighting. I just need somewhat advice before I take him to the vet. How do I add pics?

Ok that is not black bearding- black bearding is when the beard turns real black which could be a sign of pain or distress --- this looks like coloring which could be him going into shed -- he looks bigger than 3 months old - the lighting in the tank are you using a long tube fixture for a UVB or a coil? And your basking temps are being taken w/ a digital probe thermometer NO stick ons they are inaccurate

Yeah I don't see anything wrong at all there. And just for the record, male beardies can also sport a black beard even if seeing their reflection or just a hormonal reason and it's totally normal.

is it possible that a female may also do that AHBD? because Freyja has had like a half black beard off and on for awhile shes 6-7 months right now?

Females can be moody + get a greyish beard but shouldn't have an actual black beard unless they are really in a bad mood for some reason.

Thanks for the reply AHBD, right after we wrote that we gave her a bath she is in a mean shed and has been rubbing her belly up and down her log. I took a baby toothbrush to her tail and got most of it off. she also pood and after her bath, a Lil bit of that black beard cleared up but she isn't done completely with the shed. She ran around looking at us, almost as to say thank you. It's the most active I have seen her in like a week. This half-black beard she's had going on has been like a week so we have been very concerned. Since she has never really had such shade on her beard before. She has grown very quickly though and this shed is by far the worst and longest she has had. Have you ever seen such a significant black beard on a beardie during sheds? Does she being translucent have anything to do with how well we can see the dark on her beard?

He’s about 5months. He’s currently using 100w basking and a 160w uva/uvb light with the dome fixtures.
