Black beard but no stress marks?

Hey everyone! I had a quick question regarding my translucent leather.

Today I was giving him a bath and I always have a few people check the temperature to give an o-k on the warmth. As expected, he is basically a cat and doesn't like the bath at first but usually winds up pooping and then making me clean it out and fill it back up, so the second time around he is totally okay with it.

So as he's swimming around happily and then I decided to pick him up just to check him because his beard went PITCH black all of a sudden but no stress marks or any aggression.


I'm not really concerned as he didn't bite, hiss, or even open his mouth. His beard just got very black and I was wondering if it was something I did or if it was just him being dopey. Picture included, thanks everyone!

Where do you give him his bath? My boy thinks he's a tough guy and will beard at himself in the mirror while I'm filling up the sink, and it usually results in his beard going at least a little black without getting the stress marks. Maybe he caught sight of himself in the mirror?

I wish I had a picture of my bathroom, I generally have him facing away from the mirror when I enter the bathroom and just put him right in the tub. Maybe he's just showing off?

Could be - my boy generally beards either when he sees himself or sees one of my girls. One of the first times his beard went black actually was when he was about 5 months old, the morning after I brought him back from the vet. Sometimes I'll look over and his beard will be dark for no reason that I can figure. My girls don't do that, so it must be a boy thing
