Betadine Alternative?

Hello fellow board members,

I am in Canada and I am in need of some Betadine. I have visited many different Walmart stores and drug stores trying to locate Betadine. I have had no success at all. We've even tried calling several different vets in the city and not a single place has any. Apparently it has to be special ordered and will take about a week to get some. I don't want to wait a week. I can't wait a week.

Are there any safe alternatives to use instead of Betadine? Please help.

Betadine is a 10% iodine solution. Can you get iodine? You could mix it 10% with purified or distilled water and have basically the same thing. Iodine is very expensive full strength but you may be able to get a small bottle.

Not positive, but I think iodine and betadine are the same thing. If I recall I couldn't find betadine but could find iodine. You will want to double check this, however.

Iodine is available.

I finally found some Betadine after visiting many stores and making 50+ phone calls trying to locate some. It's only a small bottle and won't be enough but I had them order me the biggest bottle (500ml) they could. If I don't use it all within the next couple weeks I'll put it in the Beardie storage area with all their other unused furniture because I'm sure with all the dragons around it will be used eventually.

Funny how we take things like that for granted. Here you can find it everywhere, even the grocery stores.
